It's funny thinking back on it that I grew up watching both Jurassic Park and Land Before Time as a child (yes at the same time bc my brother was and still is super into dinosaurs) and yet thinking back on it I was more scared of sharptooth from the first LBT movie than any of the live action dinosaurs in all of the (then three) Jurassic movies. And i understood the plots of those movies from an early age too. Not fully, but I put two and two together that dinosaurs killed people in the Jurassic franchise and those people who were eaten were gone forever. But yet for some reason this animated Dino was still more terrifying to me. He still kinda is, hell I had a dream about that part where he's trying to sniff out Littlefoot and Cera from the brambles just the other night 😃

I miss Land Before Time having this kind of tone. Not the whole movie but this was the villain of movies like this. And without an extra step of the villainy, the kids films would be dull and thankfully, this film had that extra layer. I just don’t know how Little Foot’s mother died. That was quite anticlimactic.

I never liked the bit where he's sniffing in the thorny bush at the start. Based purely on body-mass he shouldn't be able to stick his snout in then crawl in like he's an alligator, at least not without his hind legs being off the ground. It makes no sense.

I'm an adult man in my 30s and these scenes are ten times more terrifying than I remember as a kid. Sharptooth is different here compared to other carnivores villians- he's portrayed to the audience as the characters preceive him: A ravaging monster with no intelligence. Instead of just a big hungry dinosaur. Its brilliant animating and writing.
