Wine changes indoors from glass to glass....especially older wine...and there you are, having it out, in the open are, where it's a living, breathing thing again....sit with a while, I'm sure the ambient nature will offer up some changes you'll enjoy. (or perhaps, not)

I never heard of the Seyval Blanc cépage before, quite interesting video
@EnglishSparklingWineАй бұрын
It's a hybrid grape, so isn't actually allowed in most European wine regions. It only really gets used here in the UK and I believe in the US a bit. I think it was originally bred to be grown in cooler climates but is kind of a relic now. I don't think many newly established vineyards here in the last, say, decade, have planted Seyval Blanc - they nearly all go for the classic Champagne grape varieties these days.

Thanks for the “shout out”, English Sparkling Wine with Tweedy! Glad ithe wine was OK. I do remember buying a bottle from Luxters many years ago, but can’t remember anything about it. That’s a reflection on my poor memory - not the wine!

Cheers ! I assume you weren't aware at the time of recording that you had indeed something great to celebrate, i.e. the number of 10K subscribers to your most popular channel ! But hey, who needs a pretext for emptying a glass or two of sparkling wine ? ^^
@davidberlanny3308Ай бұрын
Hi John, I'm wondering whether you also wore hiking boots to the office on Fridays? I mean where would you have put your glass?? Just been looking at the map, this wine was produced just south of Andover, 2.79 miles from Portway where I think Paul works. I worked there too many years ago. I think the Test is chalk river but it doesn't really look like it near this wine yard. All the best!!
@EnglishSparklingWineАй бұрын
Cheers David! I don't think I ever wore hiking boots to the office but there was a preponderance of flat surfaces on which to put glasses, with only the slightly initial hurdle of having to shove off some irksome computing equipment first. At some point we moved to a new office which had a nice balcony with a good view of London and for a brief time there was much merriment at these end-of-the-working-week shindigs enjoying that outlook... but then our facilities people did a "health and safety assessment" and determined there was a risk somebody might not responsibly place their glass on an appropriate flat surface (or in their hiking boots), and it could end up falling off the balcony and causing an accident. So drinks on the balcony were banned. It was a terrible waste - all those sunsets left callously untoasted. That was probably a significant contributing factor for me finally deciding the corporate world really wasn't for me! I don't think I've ever been to Andover but it has a mystical quality for me as (more or less) the starting point of the A303.
@davidberlanny3308Ай бұрын
@EnglishSparklingWine Hi John, Spoilsports or party poopers, down here they would be called "aguafiestas". You've got some catching up to do, those sunsets can't remain untoasted!! In the world of mumbo jumbo the sun may not rise again if you do not make amends ........ not that we believe in mumbo jumbo!! The mystical thing for me about Andover is that I took a job there in the first place. Thankfully it didn't last too long and perhaps in a round about way led to me moving out to Spain. Maybe there is some kind of ley line connecting this all up. Not that I believe in ley lines ..... or mumbo jumbo!! Have a great weekend!!

Fantastic music, surely it's time triphop came back - or was it in our hearts all along? Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
@EnglishSparklingWineАй бұрын
I think that's the first time anyone has ever said anything positive about music I've included in one of my videos! I loved trip hop back in the day, and yet it was barely a genre was it...? If you asked the average person on the street they could at best name two trip hop bands (Portishead and Massive Attack) and it was only with some concerted digging that I discovered the band whose song featured here (Monk and Canatella). Anyway yes I'd love for there to be a trip hop resurgence!
@Misty_BottomАй бұрын
@@EnglishSparklingWine I'd say a lot of people would probably recognise a Lamb record, even if they couldn't name Lamb. Zero Seven? Sneaker Pimps? A lot of them just get called 'electronic music' but I'd say there was a tangible element of Triphop there.

Interesting. I've always associated demisec as an old lady's drink, unfairly I'm sure. On a tangent, can't the UK wine industry come up with a better term than English Sparkling Wine? It doesn't exactly slip off the tongue in the way Champagne does. ESW? Hmm, sounds like a bank. Thoughts?
@EnglishSparklingWine2 ай бұрын
I quite agree, the name is too much of a mouthful, but all previous attempts to come up with an alternative have floundered. We've had Britfizz, Britagne, Merrett (after Christopher Merrett) and some initialism a bit like South Africa's MCC which I forget now. None of them stuck! I think part of the problem is that it's such a broad region. Even the "English" in English sparkling doesn't capture it all because there are a few places making sparkling wine in Wales.
