I have the opposite problem. Trying to dig a deep hole in dry white sand is not gonna happen. I have to pour water into the hole and lift it out as mud. The wet sides won't cave in easily so you can set the post.

Hey Ted, miss your content, hope the trout attack didn't affect you too bad. That would explain the lack of posting though i guess. Anyway, miss you. Your biggest fan.

It works great, you can take it apart and put it in the back of a pick up truck, only takes a few minutes to get ready, if you set trusses all the time, you need a machine but for small jobs, like you said, this works and it's fairly cheap to put one together. As far as the safety part is concerned, I just made the video, It's not my crew.

Looks like to much work for absolutely no reason, personally I wouldn’t piss around with drums at all, dig a 8 inch hole for a 4/6 inch posts and fill it with concrete 🤷🏻‍♂️. Quicker no mess and most likely will lasts alot longer, them holes you are digging for the that size/thickness of posts its massive and waste of materials..

I salute anyone and everyone whos served as a submariner, thats gotta be one hell of a job that takes massive balls to do. I toured the USS Drum a few weeks ago, an i got this weird feeling inside me like i was walking on sacred grounds. Words cant describe it good enough but it was pride an respect.

It was the USS barb that sank the train. Being on blocks is the best, it takes time with just two people. DeRosa past away a couple of years ago

If there is water in the hole why not use a barrel with a bottom still attached? Dig deeper to seat the barrel and you're assured of no water. Otherwise water can rise-up into a bottom-less barrel and dilute the setting wet concrete.

We toured the Drum with two of our sons who were Air Force Master Sergeants. They were both amazed at how full the interior was. I served in USS Blueback (SS-591), one of the last diesel boats. The Blueback's displacement was about 200 tons more than the Drum; but inside there sure wasn't much more room! D B F!

Sad to see something like this, this old gal deserves better than this. U.S.S. Drum needs better care than sitting on tinder blocks. C'mon people please let's start a restoration account for this veteran of WWll..

The only thing I don’t really like as she is now is only first deck and the conning tower are open to the public to my knowledge. When compared to BB60 in the bay, there’s not much to see. You could more or less go anywhere on the Alabama. I hope they get her to that point one day. It was still an honor to be aboard the Drum
