How to Set Post in water filled Holes

Thanks for your video. You guys are not messing around! I think your method there is just what I'm looking for on a much more lightweight diy project. I've got two 4 by 4 wooden fence posts to replace. I'm ready to install the new posts but the rain has filled both holes to the top. I'm thinking, wait for a relatively dry patch of a few hours, shop vac the water out, then follow and repeat the steps in your video. (I'm using quick set cement) Feel free to weigh in.

Or, just throw the concrete in there around the post, jab it with rebar til you get tired, and move on with life. Concrete works just fine underwater.

This is really an impractical way of doing that. Why would you dig a massive SQUARE hole? Just use and auger and dig a 12" hole, place a sonotube, insert the post, level the post with support in place, and fill in the concrete. No extra dirt to deal with, no spaces, no ladders, no pulling out tubes. Lol

I've seen many post holes dug where people try to mix dry powerder IN the hole and it never fairs well. Plus there is no drainage for this treated post. It'll last what- 6 or 7 years versus 15 like this?

I have the opposite problem. Trying to dig a deep hole in dry white sand is not gonna happen. I have to pour water into the hole and lift it out as mud. The wet sides won't cave in easily so you can set the post.

P.s. use crushed gravel (crusher run) to backfill around the drum, not soil or mud.

If there is water in the hole why not use a barrel with a bottom still attached? Dig deeper to seat the barrel and you're assured of no water. Otherwise water can rise-up into a bottom-less barrel and dilute the setting wet concrete.

Not good when rocks are involved and you can't see them underwater...and the barrel won't push through them.

Interesting, but probably not practical for fence posts. Unless you can get really small steel drums, which is very unlikely.

Looks like to much work for absolutely no reason, personally I wouldn’t piss around with drums at all, dig a 8 inch hole for a 4/6 inch posts and fill it with concrete 🤷🏻‍♂️. Quicker no mess and most likely will lasts alot longer, them holes you are digging for the that size/thickness of posts its massive and waste of materials..
