As a African Hunter our experience with the American Hunters vs. Europeans, the Amercins generally will not buy anything chambered in metric. The Europeans does not bother and will buy the gun for the task at hand. Americans tend to shoot " their beanfeild" rifles small and fast. In Africa the trend is bigger and slow with a .375H&H 270g for plainsgame and 300g for the rest. Biggame 375 and biger.
@WildBushGrit5 күн бұрын
True about metric and imperial, until the 6.5 creedmoor :) but you are right on the money. Americans will favor american 'caliber'. For American VS European hunter I think its just geographical, the largest animal we have here are Grizzly, and up there in Alaska, most guides prefer 45-70 with a 400gr at low velocity, the bullet hold together with deeper penetration instead of shading weight and shattering. More energy being dispelled on the animal that way. Fast and small(double the speed quadruple the energy) also dispel lots of energy based on the bullet construction, the 270 has killed lots of Elephants, but I certainly wouldn't use that against an angry Buffalo. :)

I also find it interesting that 300PRC outperforms 6.5PRC and 7mmPRC at every distance per their info online. That doesn't make any sense at all. But, Im not dropping $7k to try it when my regular old Rem 7mm and 6.5CM aren't having trouble dropping targets across North America at half the ammo cost
@WildBushGrit5 күн бұрын
I'm getting reports that the PRC's aren't getting the advertised velocities. The 6.5 and 7 are respectively short and long action, meanwhile the 300prc is a magnum length action, longer than the . 375 H&H Magnum more like a hand canon :) That being said, what's the point of so much force? Like you said the 7mmRM can drop anything. With easy to get ammo, and the range of bullets type in the 7mm is just insane. My next rifle is certainly going to be a 7mm. .284 Shehane maybe :) Cheers mate!

My first 527 was/is 6.5 Grendel. Beautiful wood and metal so blued it's almost a royal purple. My 527 in 7.63x39 has a stock similar to yours. I was initially very disappointed because my other CZs have wood so pretty they should be mounted in glass display cases. But I bought this one to carry in the woods and swamps of the Carolinas. Like you stated, it's going to get goofed up anyway, so let's roll with it. Great rifle!

I am curious if you have anymore feedback on your experiences with the barnes load since you put this video out? Cheers!

Yes I do have more to share, I don't know if you watched part 2, but one my kill wasn't as good as I expected, I only understood years later. Distance shouldn't exceed 100 yards. Even if on paper it seems you have enough energy up to 200-250 yards, the rapidly speed drop and the twist rate can makes the bullet veer inside the animal. Even if my shot placement was good, the bullet went right as soon as it hit the deer at almost a 45 degree angle. The bullet at 150 yards get overstabilized and the nose points up as the bullet drop. I explained it in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoSQpJaiqq5gp7M Thank you! Cheers!

As a general question for meats (unless there are exceptions to some), all videos i've seen when the meat is covered in salt to draw out the moisture, its always placed in the fridge, is there a reason during this step that placing the meat in a cool dry setting other than a fridge wouldn't be accetable?
@WildBushGrit16 күн бұрын
Just in case, I did used a fridge in this process, the stainless box is my fridge. But having said that, you can do some curing without fridge, the main thing to make sure is #1 Absolutely no bugs shall even touch the raw meat and #2 you need plenty of wind and ventilation around the meat.

My favorites are Patch out with accelerator then iosso on a nylon brush, now I am trying the Thorro Clean Bore Cleaning System from iosso and a partner company. Seems to work really well but always the star of the show is the iosso paste on a nylon brush. I have never tried the JB bore paste, I do not use a bronze brush to often now, almost never.

Awesome , now my question is what kind of load were in those? , please help i just started on 12 ga slug looking forward not to blow maself , and is there such thing as under charge / not enough powder ?
@WildBushGrit20 күн бұрын
These were for my turkey loads, #5 or #6 shots. If you stick to publish data you shouldn't need to worry. Yes undercharge is real and very dangerous. Your slug might get stuck in the barrel, you'd think you missed, fire a 2nd shell, and boom! you just blew up your shotgun with potential life threatening injuries to you or people nearby. My best advice is get a reloading data booklet, and don't stray away from it until you have a good grasp of what is happening and know exactly what you are doing.

With abrasives like JB or Iosso pastes, you can also use a hard nylon brush like Iosso's blue ones. Since abrasives will wear the steel a bit, we remove the hard carbon with a bronze brush+solvent and copper every 10 rounds, and to remove the hard carbon layer left we prefer wait more shots (50 to 100). These hard carbon deposits on the 8 first inches are bad for accuracy but let your rifle tell you when complete cleaning is needed instead of your borescope. Beware of the first bullet after such cleaning, often a flyer😉

It shifts a little bit your impact point. The first few shots are usually ignored. As to why, I guess it fills up some irregularities in your barrel, the bullet will glide and spin differently in your barrel, enough to see a slight shift at 100 yards . Hope that sums it up :) cheers!

For me, I picked a 370 Sako Magnum (9.3x66). Just seemed to make sense, even though Sako has abandoned it for now. Had a Sako L691R rebarreled for it. Gives 2700fps with 250gr (4046 ft/lb), 2550fps with 286gr (4129 ft/lb) & 2400fps with a 320gr (4092 ft/lb). Has almost 1/4" more powder space than the 35 Whelan. Ballistically VERY similar to the 30/06, but has the same impact as a 375 H&H. Recoil is like a 35 Whelan. Gun "experts" gave this one a damnation of little or no praise. Not flashy enough. But it works, just like the old 9.3x62 always did, but a bit better in all regards.

It is rather interesting how most videos make a comparison on paper. But as of April 224, some people have noticed the PRC series does NOT meet the velocities listed on the box. I currently own a 6.5 Creedmoor, .270 Win, and a .308 Win. I like the 6.8 Western as a long range rifle. But most of the box ammo has hunting loads, not match or FMJ loads. I guess my best solution is to pick a rifle, buy a dozen boxes of ammo, and buy reloading euipment.
@WildBushGritАй бұрын
The current problem with 6.8 is the brass availability. The winchester's is too soft, after 3 reloads, the primer pocket gets slack. Lapua now makes 300PRC, it pricey, but once reformed, they are going to hold up well for load dev.

Great video. But do you have to refrigerate the meat? How’d they do it before refrigeration? Would they only cure it in the winter months?
@WildBushGritАй бұрын
Yes usually curing time was during fall, before winter could freeze anything. You can do the whole process without Fridge, but its always comes with uncertainties when it comes with bacteria and food poisoning. Keep everything well ventilated, you will get white mold, which is fine. But if you get dark sticky slime, you need to throw away. Any foul smell, and you throw away. Using curing salt is also to be considered. Thanks!

5:15 The over powder cup will never touch thebase wad. Once you drop the powder into the hull its over powder cup portion of the wad should lightly compress against the powder charge. A little bit of powder migration is not a problem.
@WildBushGritАй бұрын
I agree, its confusing the way I said it. I meant the powder should be sealed between the wad and the base, but didn't meant to say that the wad and the base needed to contact for a seal.
