Have a question regarding landings on 28C. Why do aircraft exiting onto taxiway Papa always turn west to the end of the taxiway, then turn north to either taxiway Alpha or Bravo? If they went east on Papa, they could exit on EE and go straight to the terminal area. Would cut down that 20 minute taxi time.
@TheCuriousSpotter6 күн бұрын
Did you mean 10C landings? When they land on 10C and then turn to Papa they always taxi back to CC on Papa to cross 10L behind the DD intersection. DD is used for many 10L takeoffs.
@georgenacino70575 күн бұрын
@@TheCuriousSpotter Yes, exactly. they do the same when they land on the nort side, landing on 9L they then head over to the east side of the airport when hey could take a much shorter route. Beiing that fuel is the most expensive comodity you would thnk that they would try to cut down those long taxi routes. I wish someone could explain why ATC choses that routing

@georgenacino7057 my guess is that they can make planes take off more efficiently from 10L DD intersection if no plane is crossing ever. And it's more safe.
@georgenacino70575 күн бұрын
Yes that makes sense but even if they cross from the beginning of 10c they still have to cross the runway and if it's behind an aircraft they're not going to cross while they're revving up their turbofans

The pilot probably had a Flight Simulator flashback where no damage occurs after a very hard landing.

Unless there was wind shear...that was a poor landing.

His glide path angle might have dictated a slower air speed. He didn't have much runway, and all thrush reverser on

It would have been interesting to see if they retracted the flaps. You’re not supposed to after a hard landing or else you can damage the tracks.

Didn't look like that hard a landing to me. The video doesn't mention crosswinds or wind direction, but the idea is to get the plane on the ground without bouncing it. I imagine the plane was heavy (fully loaded). BTW, Atlas is the largest user of the B747 in any configuration, My son-in-law is a 1st Officer for Atlas in the B777.

What’s the big deal? Atlas Air is a cargo hauler not a people carrier. I see one of their 747’s on the tarmac at Travis AFB often. Might even be the same plane as the one in the video.
