The Honor Blackman episodes were decent but recorded on ancient Video Tape, so the image quality and sound weren't very good. Beginning with season 4, they switched to 35mm, and quality dramatically improved, and it allowed for more location work. Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee had wonderful chemistry together. Emma Peel was not inferior to John Steed she was every bit his equal. She was also gorgeous, witty, and thoroughly emancipated. She was even called that on the show by other characters. She was considered a role model by many women of that time as well as a fashion icon. She was considered by many to be a strong feminist but she didn't consider herself to be a feminist even though fiercely independent- some of her character came through as the "Queen of Thorn's" on GOT's- that was her in real life if you annoyed her. She had a sharp wit. She once called an annoying Physician "Lunch" because his name was the same as a common British food. The Beatles were even "The Avengers" fans. "The Hour That Never Was" episode was claimed to be the inspiration for the album cover for "Abbey Road" and Paul McCartney, in 1967, stopped at Diana Rigg's home with a copy of "Sgt Pepper" and told Dame Diana Rigg "I just wanted to meet you". "The Avengers" was so heavily censored in the US that 5 Emma Peel episodes weren't released in the US until the 1990s. Patrick Macnee said she was very naughty on set. He didn't elaborate on that, and I have always wondered what she did that he considered naughty? I heard that she swore a lot before it was considered acceptable. She was particularly fond of the expression "Bloody" when it was still considered a profanity in Britain.

I loved seasons 4 to 6.1. After season 4, Episode 10, Diana's salary was tripled. Diana Rigg was used to theater pay, which was low, so she didn't realize how low her pay was. She also was tired of the long hours and the fact that she only considered her chauffeur and Patrick Macnee to be friends. I tried to watch a couple of Linda Thorson episodes, but they were bad, not well-acted, and poorly written. I know that Linda Thorson was 19 from Canada and a producer's girlfriend when hired. She later married someone else. I wish that they had brought back Hannah Wild (Charlotte Rampling) she would have been closer in talent to Dame Diana Rigg. I like the humor of "The Avengers"; for example, Emma Peel's "Girl from Auntie" started with Emma leaving an MFU ball in the AM. I finally realized that MFU stood for "Man from Uncle". One had to watch closely for all the puns. I have always found the tie between James Bond and the Avengers to be interesting. Not only did Honor Blackman act in Goldfinger, but even Steed's steel-brimmed hat was lifted to Bond. Both Diana Rigg and future New Avenger Joanna Lumley were in OHMSS.

@SuburbanAdventures Nope, completely separate from those johnny-come-latelys with the shields, hammers, and fancy suits of armour. In fact, in the UK, the first Avengers film was retitled as "Avengers Assemble" in order to avoid confusion with what us Brits called "the proper Avengers"! 😉

I actually prefer the earlier seasons, because the stories were more serious. Not that Steed's humor was unappreciated. And I like sci-fi and horror, but the later seasons just didn't take it seriously enough, probably influenced by the camp of the Batman TV show. If only someone would fix the terrible sound quality of the early seasons! Also, it rather bothers me that each successive partner seems to be more submissive to Steed, going from Cathy Gale, who doesn't fully trust him, to Emma Peel, who's more than willing to go along with him, to Tara King, who practically worships him.

I remember as a child in the 70s that Apaches was frequently shown when the BBC programme Farming was broadcast on Sunday lunchtimes. Growing up on a farm you would have freedom to roam & play wherever. Also you would be expected to do chores & a variety of jobs around the farm. I would use a petrol lawn mower aged 8 & was driving a tractor aged 10. Unfortunately serious accidents & fatalities on farms were very frequent. Times have changed the HSE , NFU & DEFRA have helped to reduce casualties & fatalities on farms.

I didn't think Revelation or Kevin Smith needed redemption. I think that small but loud part of each fandom whose toxicity usually derails whatever new and exciting storytelling a franchise is doing striked again here and just like how Star Wars overcorrected to disasters results in The Rise of Skywalker, so did Revolution to much more satisfying results. There were things "fans" complained about that were our of the original show. Revelation did beautiful character work for the entire main cast except He-Man because what else is there to say about him? But the work they did on making Adam the real hero was stunning. And just like in Revolution where all they did was give He-Man a new suit, Adam's growth was compelling and the basis for the entire story. I also think this series suffered from a shortened episode order. It makes no sense for Andra or the people of Eternia to accept Keldor's technological enhancements so fast, or at all given the group mind-wipe of last series. I wanted the story to be able to breathe more, to spend more time with Granamyr, Gwildor and even Orko who may have had the most emotional arc last season. So I think Revolution was good but I thought Revelation was spectacular and I hope series 3 gives us more of that grand, epic storytelling. Lastly, I love Mark Hamill's Skeletor. I didn't watch Batman so his performance feels right and in line with the camp and menace of Filmation. Great review. I appreciate your more even handed approach.

It does make you wonder if they intentionally made He-Man, and other similar cartoons back i the 80s homoerotic. It's only when you watched them as an adult that you go, hang on a minute. I remember re-watching Thundercats on DVD and I had completely forgotten that in the first episode the Thundercats were bollock naked. Rentaghost was less camp than the US cartoons. 🤣
