Dan sang The American Trilogy less than a week after his dad died. I've watched that video many times, but not once without tearing up myself. His dad loved Elvis and he sang The American Trilogy as a tribute. Beautiful! ❤

The genesis of this song is about depression and suicidal thoughts and overcoming them. Such a topic had to be couched in other terminology at the time it was written (since then, Ren has successfully opened the door). Dan us open about having struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts and overcame them with his father's help. He did lose friends to suicide though. When he recorded this, his father had just died a few months prior so that loss and all the memories overwhelmed them. Dan sings from the heart and soul - always. If you watch Gethsemane, he's in tears at the end of that too.

This is one if my very favorite songs. When he grabs the mic that is a sign that thigs are going to amp up. That is an Epic hair flip - just gorgeous when it lands against his back. The returning to the quit shaky breath is a masterpiece in contrast.

He gave up a lot for his art, No drugs, alcohol, sigarettes, carbonated drinks, caffeine, mints, only fans(no aircon), no iced water, no sweets. Everything that can have an influence on his voice is taboo. He also warms up his voice a day before singing, and will mostly try not to talk for a day after his performance. He had depression though, and you can see it in this, and a few other performances. In heart of steel, he talks about the impact of depression, on the world, and in that performance you can actually see, that he knows it. Also in Numb he talks about depression.

Thank you for enjoying Dan.The jaw movement is a different type of vibrato controlled by the diaphragm. He said it took him two years to train the jaw muscles to do that. My favorite Witcher song is Burn Butcher Burn. Lots of beautiful screams in that. Another great song is “ I will make a Man out of You” from the movie Mulan.

Dan is the man of a thousand voices. Check Love Me Tender, Elvis cover, Black Wind, Fire, and Steel - with the longest held note you have ever heard, and the guitarist that won best in Brazil 4 years running. High notes - Wuthering Heights. Super low notes - Rains of Castamere. Dont miss Poker Face, Lady Gaga cover!

An outstanding performance by Dan!❤❤ What could have provoked his tears was his past depression and/or the death of his father. Having said that, Dan absolutely "lives" the song he's singing, so it isn't necessarily either of the above. He's a performer of note! Drugs??? Never!!! He's a very health conscious, clean living person who wouldn't dream of going down that road, of that I'm convinced. Good to see you back. Wishing you a good road trip😃

Skipping down through the comments, I see a lot of different ideas about how or where this song came about, and lots of different ideas about its meaning. In actuality, the song (and many more that go with it) is an original by Rhapsody of Fire, and it occurs in an album that is a tale also written by the band. You could compare the tale to the ones that Tolkien wrote, not necessarily by subject, but by pattern. There are two Rhapsody of Fire albums that carry the subject line. Here are the songs, in the order in which they are presented in the two albums: RHAPSODY LYRICS album: "Dawn Of Victory" (2000) 1. Lux Triumphans 2. Dawn Of Victory 3. Triumph For My Magic Steel 4. The Village Of Dwarves 5. Dargor, Shadowlord Of The Black Mountain 6. The Bloody Rage Of The Titans 7. Holy Thunderforce 8. Trolls In The Dark 9. The Last Winged Unicorn 10. The Mighty Ride Of The Firelord If you're familiar with Dan Vasc's entire YT library, you'll know that he made two covers (an early one by himself, and then one with Fabio Leone) of the #2 track -- "Dawn of Victory." If you check out the lyrics and listen to the covers (or the original), you should note that there is a very important personage named "Dargor" contained in the lore. What most people don't realize that there is another track that Dan covered, from the other album, that is related ... RHAPSODY OF FIRE LYRICS album: "Triumph Or Agony" (2006) 1. Triumph Or Agony 2. Heart Of The Darklands 3. Old Age Of Wonders 4. The Myth Of The Holy Sword 5. Il Canto Del Vento 6. Silent Dream 7. Bloody Red Dungeons 8. Son Of Pain (English Version) 9. The Mystic Prophecy Of The Demonknight 10. Dark Reign Of Fire 11. Defenders Of Gaia 13. A New Saga Begins (Single Edit) 14. Son Of Pain (Italian Version) 15. Son Of Pain (French Version) If you're familiar with Dan Vasc's entire YT library (and if you've been watching this reaction), you'll know that Dan covered the #8 track ("Son of Pain." If you check out the lyrics and listen to the cover (or the original), you should note that there is a very important personage named "Dargor" contained in the lore. With that knowledge at the foreground, you should be able to listen to (or at least read all of the lyrics of) both albums, and THEN you will know what "Son of Pain" is about (or at least you'll know a LITTLE bit about it). Personally, when I first heard the song, I thought IMMEDIATELY about 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 ... Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!” And God granted his request. I haven't researched whether or not this scripture would fit in with the tale written by and for Rhapsody of Fire, were in any way related back to that source, but it would seem likely, given the subject matter of both songs in question here. I haven't listened to the full albums, but I'm thinking that might be a good idea! One more thing: The Fearless album named "Chronicle of Ancient Wisdom" is a 12-track original album (on Spotify, etc.) that was written by Dan and Davi Vasc, with the help of Gabriel Belozi, and Giovanni Rezende, is also a full-blown tale, written in the Tolkien manner.

Absolutely beautiful! Dan suffered from depression plus he loss a friend who passed shortly before he sang this song. It’s really hard to tell what Dan is feeling when he’s singing. He’s very emotional, but he is also a very talented actor. If you haven’t watched his Gethsemane video, I would like to recommend that one. You will be impressed by his acting performance, it’s stage worthy.

So glad to see you back doing reactions, and Dan Vasc reactions in particular. His vocals were amazing and emotionally heartbreaking. As others have noted, he did suffer depression and overcome it, so that may be the basis of his performance. He has other very emotional songs also such as American Trilogy-Elvis Presley cover. He recorded it 5 days after his Dad passed away from cancer. It was his Father's favorite. It is beautiful. Also his cover of Gethsemane from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, is a Broadway worthy performance that is very emotional. Thanks so much for bringing us another great reaction.
