'I do think madonna is lady gaga before lady gaga' - No, you have it backwards, lady gaga tries to be madonna after madonna ruled the world. Long after Madonna, her cultural significance will remain revered where as gaga will barely register as a minor blip that wont stand the test of time. what has gaga done to push the cultural needle forward. Truly, what has gaga done that has affected the cultural landscape...i can assure you, over a span her first decade and 3 more to follow, unlike madonna's 4 decades, gaga will not be seen as a trailblazer that registers on anything considered epic.

I wouldn’t recommend the “Shanti/Ashtangi” live Mtv video, as Madonna’s pronunciation is awful. The album version is better, and is available on KZbin, you’ll just be listening to the track without a video 😜

How does your voice and face not match? Looks and sounds normal. Still.. I feel that. I have a very deep voice, deeper than the majority of men, but I don’t APPEAR particularly butch. And I don’t really care to, either. That’s not my point. It just doesn’t really match, visually, I don’t think… and even though yes, I am gay, when I hear my voice back, I think I’m the gayest, limp-wristed sounding queer ever. Lol! But of course, I’m not fighting that; I’m gay, plus, I am the oldest child with four sisters. I was raised also by my grandmother and mother present, and father, but it was a very feminine influenced childhood. Never into sports or Boy Scouts, unless to look at the guys. Haha.. So given my upbringing, I naturally SPEAK like a woman, I use inflections and mannerisms that one may consider to be “feminine”. Yet when you add that to a very very deep voice, to me, it sounds obviously gay. And that’s great! F*ck society. If someone thinks I sound gay then that’s their projection. I just don’t like my own voice. Unfortunately, everyone I meet seems to have a literal orgasm when I speak, as they love my “sexy soothing” voice. And I’m wondering, “why…?” 🤣

This album was her “yoga era”. Even the melody on this song is very much based in Indian music. Even if it’s the scale or something basic like that, the influence is still there.

By the way, the barren desert ground? This was filmed in Mojave Desert, here in California. I believe it was autumn or winter when it was filmed, mainly at night and at dawn, and I remember her saying how cold it was.

This _Ray of Light_ album is definitely her most “Indian” influenced album. Many musical moments influenced by ragas and simple melodies of Indian classical music. She gave birth to her daughter Lourdes a few years prior, and she started ashtanga yoga afterwards, so that practice really shaped her musical influences here. Even her song “Shanti/Ashtangi” is entirely composed of the ashtanga yoga prayer “vunde gurunam charanaravinde…” something like that! But musically, the orchestra especially on “Frozen” is very Indian influenced. I love the entire record!

I love your input, especially your feedback on how many shoutouts Madonna gives to Indian culture, and especially Astanga Yoga, which Madonna practices. She's able to deliver both a very practical and spiritual message at the same time. Sadly, we don't have the power to melt the frozen hearts of other. Not even Madonna, the Sorceress.

Yes! Madonna is the pop star prototype! Everyone from Gaga to Miley to Britney all borrow on her formula, in one way or another. Madonna Invented what it meant to be a pop star in the age of media. Pushing forward a new sexual liberation that included everyone gay or straight, black or white.

She was very inspired by Indian culture during this period and did work with Indian choreographers for this video in which she wanted her hands and arms to express her emotions of this song.
@PerryCJamesUK3 жыл бұрын
The song was written by Bjork for Madonna and addresses the problem with women who were traditionally not included in the educational world of books and words. How can a person express with words a feeling if those words are created by men and only really relate to male ideas and emotions? The song concludes that a woman must leave the conscious world to find real expression and meaning. The video continues with those themes and is populated with representations of feminist art works as well some brought to life versions of some of Madonna's other personal favourite paintings. It is far from the hard to strive for masonic symbolism that those with an agenda seem to attach to anything that is slightly out of the norm.

Such an interesting video. Madonna is filmed in California's Mojave Desert - an antiphrasis of sorts to the nature of the song, dressed in a Gothic-style ball gown designed by Belgian designer Olivier Theyskens, her hands and wrists decorated in Mehndi with the Om symbol on one of her hands and seemingly playing the role of the Celtic triple goddess Brigid who is often represented as three separate entities whilst still being one being (maybe relating to the 3 stages of the female lifespan.) This Goddess is often connected to battlefields or desolate areas where lives have been lost and victories claimed. The video also associates Madonna's character with crows, maybe a nod to the Hindu goddess Shani and a large dog, possibly referring to the Greek Goddess Hecate. Madonna has also sited the film The English Patient as a further influence on the video. What it all means is anybody's guess, but that lady certainly draws from far and wide to inform her work and her medium. A stunning and complex music video from the Madonna. Great reaction. Thanks.

NOT Brigid!! The MORRIGAN. It could also be the Hekate or the Moiras. She represents the divine feminine, and 3 is also the number of Binah, the dark Mother of Kabbalah
