Awesome video! Do you find sunrise or sunset performs better?
@TommyTimeFishing6 күн бұрын
Thanks mate! I’ve had most of my success around sunset/evening but mostly because I choose to fish at that time. To be honest any periods of low light or darkness is really good for land based squid fishing as they come in close the darker it gets

Tell me about it mate! I just hiked down to the upper cobungra river from dinner plain and it was an absolutely magical spot. Quite literally didn’t see any signs of life though. Something tells me that the cormorants have already done their dash through there 👎🏼 not a single trout was spotted and covered some grouse water

Enjoy your content mate. Great vids for those of us that primarily fish land based. Do you find that whole area up to the beaches productive for squid or is it more towards the corner? Seems very shallow!
@TommyTimeFishing22 күн бұрын
Cheers John! Basically up to the corner is the most productive area I find. I reckon the closer you get to the beach the shallower it gets, but on a really high tide I do believe that area closer to the beach would produce a few as I’ve seen people catch them there before, but the water closer to the corner is the best I reckon. Thanks for tuning in mate and really appreciate your feedback 😊
@JasondenHollander-qj5hp23 күн бұрын
Am clueless re squid. Is there a minimum size, season, tide action etc? Thanks love your vids
@TommyTimeFishing23 күн бұрын
G’day Jason! In terms of squid there’s no minimum size limit. Generally speaking though the best times to target them is when the weather is nice and calm and the water is nice and clear. Generally speaking in Vic the calmest weather is in autumn. A rising tide or close to high tide is best when you’re land based as the water is already shallow enough when you’re casting off the shore so the deeper the water is I believe the better your chances are. Thanks heaps for tuning in really appreciate it!
@JasondenHollander-qj5hp23 күн бұрын
@ love your work mate. I’m a fly fisherman which is what got me onto you. Really like your laid back, pragmatic approach. Was just listening to a leading US pod and they (despite being an industry leader in equipment and web presence) haven’t done a vid on bow-n-arrow casting. Challenge made.
@TommyTimeFishing22 күн бұрын
@@JasondenHollander-qj5hpcheers mate appreciate that! The old bow and arrow cast is an under rated cast when you’re in that twig water. I guess not many people fish that kind of water hey. Looking forward to doing a little bit of fly fishing soon though. Hopefully the trout gods are good to me!

yeh honestly I reckon that’s absolutely key to having a great session. If you check the section you’re about to fish and find it’s a tad too warm then maybe try a little further upstream where generally speaking the water is cooler. Could be the difference between targeting some actively feeding fish in comparison to targeting some lethargic fish that aren’t all that keen on feeding up.
