A nature nonfiction I was reccomended is "The Jourrny of the Pink Dolphins" by Sy Montgomery. The only short (probably) easy book origonally written in Dutch is "Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank Other shortish Dutch books on my radar are "The Pellican" by Martin Driessen (short comedy), "Bonita Avenue" by Peter Buleada, "The Discomfort of Evening" by Merieke Rijneveld (that's a darker one), one you might be into more than me is "Diaturbamces of the Mind" by D. Draaisma I've been buying a hideous amount of books and need to start working through the pile before getting more.

These sound like great book recommendations! I would love to visit that bookshop you mentioned, the one focused nature writing - a genre I love but read far too little of! Some nature books I have enjoyed include ‘Braiding Sweetgrass,’ by Robin Wall Kimmerer and “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle,’ by Barbara Kingsolver.

I have read from the translator before, she wtote "The Spare Man" which I really really disliked so that will be interesting.

Top 3 -Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (my first and only 5☆ this year) -Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu (great animal companion) -The Crypt by Scott Sigler (best sci‐fi horror so far) High hopes that fell flat but weren't bad -The Red Tent by Anita Diamant -Sunbringer by Hanna Kaner -Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine -I Myself am a Woman by Ding Ling -The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett -Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen -Animal by Lisa Taddeo The 2 I strongly disliked -The Dispissessed by Ursula K LeGuine (read it for an online book club and was the only to actually finish it lol) -The Scourge Between the Stars by Ness Brown (my only 0☆ for the year) Some thriller recs -Bluff by Michael Kardos -The Undesired by Yrsa Sigurdardottir (or "Last Rituals") -The Lost Village by Camilla Sten -Insomnia by Sara Pinborough -Near the Bone by Chrisina Henry -Call me Princess by Sara Blædel (content warning)

I read 12 books 4375 pages. Ranking by meaning would be umpossible for me bc i couldn't prioritixe one type of meaning over another. My top 4 were -Godzilla x Kong by Greg Keyes (movie novelization, the books add to the films and give much needed deph, also feels spetial bc Godzilla turns 70 this year) -The Hidden Guardian by J.D.L Rosell (book 3 in a series that caught me totally off gaurd and made me cry) -Nightbitch (felt like peices from many lesser books finally being put together properly) -The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston (solid romance with a time travel aspect, but also deals with grief/letting go and choosing happiness over expectations) Bridge to Terabithis by Katherine Patterson was interesting bc i gave it 4.5☆ and hated every second of it. It heavily focuses on a boy trying to fit society's mold at the expence of himself, add philosophically it's postmodernist and there are few things I dislike more than postmodernism. I have read This is How you lose the Time War. I was prepared for the writing to be so purple it hurts, and for it to be the kind of book where there isn't much to hold on to and it's up to you to sink or swim on your own.

@@fayesparallelstories nightbitch spoilers I liked the art performance as tas the ending, although having her son involved wouldn't have been my choice. Not sure if Yoder knew about it but the dancing skeleton animals reminded me of a greenlandic folklore monster called a tupiloq, which is a creature made by a Witch out of human and animal bones that is brought back to life as a weapon for vengeance but usually turns on its creator, using tupiloqs for art is a relay cool condept to me. The main reason it got such a high rating from me is I've read quote a few books that tried similar and were less successful, such as The Vegetatian by Han Kang, Come Closer by Sara Gran, Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester, Ducks Newburyport by Lucy Ellmann, and Girls Against God by Jenny Hval for the angry artist bits. Even though I dispised it reading The Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Plnkola added something bc the mc's book was kind of like it. Other books that added to my experience were The The Yellow Wallpaper, Where the Wild Ladies Are by Aoko Matsuda, salt slow by Julia Armfield, Moontlowers and Nightshade, Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao, Earthlings bySayakaMurata, The Core of the Sun byJohanna Sinisalo, TenderMorselsbyMargoLanagan. My other complaint is that it was about 50 pages too long. The fact most characters didn't have a name was good for me. And I got a couple laugh out loud moments when she and her son were being wierd in public XD. As for whether she was really turning into a dog, I'm comfortable leaving that mostly ambiguous, I'm ok with full, partial or no real transformations but I do think there was magic in some capacity. Music also played a role for me "Unmapped Darkness" by Seven Spires and "Where the Heart is Home" by Xandria were ob repeat over the course of my reading (and Where the Heart is Home even had the same drum intro as her art performance). I have thoughts on the husband marriage and parenting but this is already way too long.

Any 1* books or your least favourite book of the year? I quite enjoyed Last call at the Local :) The state of Affairs by Ester Perel was a struggle for me though. 4. Most read genre so far? I’m so glad you’re taking about this! I love books that I started referring to as “cozy lifestyle.” So anything by Fiona Ferris, Jennifer Melville, Jennifer Scott, and the like. They’re all about living a chic life and being inspired by the beauty around us.
