Great video, thank you! With Snapper, what worries me is that only root subvolume is included by default, so it’s not an honest system rollback. I’m quite new to Linux, and want to experiment a lot. Of course VMs are used for that mostly, but sometimes you just can’t get the same experience with VM you could get with pure HW. Take Nvidia drivers as an example, if I’m doing something wrong, I can rollback the root subvolume, but others subvolumes will be kept “broken”. E.g., /opt and /usr/local

Tumbleweed is one hell of a great distro. I am currently migrating all my Arch and Arch-`Based` distros to tumbleweed. A guy named Kents Tech World made a very compelling video on this OS and I just love it. I fell for the meme thinking Arch was the best of the best, but honestly, Arch has never reached the system stability of Tumbleweed on my computers. I really think people should be talking more about this great distro. It´s so beginner-friendly and uncomplicated.

openSUSE Tumbleweed is not suitable for me. When adding the packman repository, many packages are still missing in the repositories. No cmatrix, shutter, vivaldi browser, copyq, bibata cursor, PortProton, Visual Studio Code. I have to install all the named packages by adding incomprehensible repositories. Dotnet has to connect the repository from openSUSE Leap 15, is this normal? And I also found a glitch, when updating it downloads the same package from different repositories, and installs it again. So I will continue to sit on Manjaro Kde. It has all the packages that I would not want.

Thanks for this, reviews after the reviewer has actually used s distro for a long time are so much more rewarding than "initial reviews" of a new distro for the reviewer. I have very new hardware and I am now on Arch based Garuda Linux and gaming is super easy (Heroic games launcher for my GOG games, and Steam), just like in windows where you install the game and just start playing, no tweaking in wine and such is needed. But, after a year a update broke the installation, only LTS-kernel works. So I thought it is a good time to try a new distro. Opensuse TW seems to be one to try. Hopefully gaming is as easy as in Garuda and Windows in opensuse too.

I'm a Windows 10 user (mainly gaming on Steam), who has played around with Linux on multile occasions through the years. My first Linux experience was, believe it or not, OpenSuse when it was available in Best Believe. I believe that's where I found the box. They even had OpenBSD :D I'd be interested in playing games like Elden Ring, iRacing, Red Dead Redemption, Valheim on OpenSuse Tumbleweed, but I think the harsh reality is that wouldn't be feasible. I'm also looking for cutting edge BUT STABLE. I'm into STABLE eye candy, and I've never found that on Linux. I think these are two areas (especially the first one) that need a bit more refinement before someone like me could be expected to switch over for the long term.
@LowTechLinux
@LowTechLinux 5 күн бұрын
Let's look at protondb for the titles you listed: Elden Ring and red dead redemption 2 are listed as gold, meaning it might need a tweak but otherwise works as expected. Iracing listed as bronze meaning it works but might have issues Valheim is listed as platinum meaning it works at least as good as it does on Windows. As for stable eye candy, kde plasma 6 will be there soon I think. Currently at 6.1.1 in tumbleweed, and 6.2 should be hitting pretty soon.

I use Tumbleweed as a daily driver and love it. The snapshots are a godsend and helped me save Suse after the first update borked KDE and some graphics issues. That's the only time I had update issues and it's been flawless besides that. I'd say Suse is the best for European users that want something a bit more complex than Ubuntu or Mint but don't care for Arch. Incredible language and international support. The only complaint I have is zypper. I think it's slow and could use some work, but that's not too big of an issue.

So I've watched like a billion of your videos learning to use InkStitch, normally when you digitize letters and numbers you don't use the Auto route satin feature. Is there a reason that for this font you chose to use the Auto route. It seems that Auto route adds more jumps and running stitches then you normally do manually.
@LowTechLinux
@LowTechLinux 15 күн бұрын
I use autoroute quite a bit. Mostly depends on the details. If there are small satins like with very small satin lettering I'll do it manually and not trim anything on the inside of the design. Small satin letters can be very tricky to pull off and the extra attention to detail makes for a better outcome. Larger satin lettering can usually work fine with autoroute.

It is a point release openSUSE distro somewhat based on SUsE Enterprise Linux. They also have Tumbleweed rolling release and Micro for immutable release. Last but not least they also have slowroll, which is based of tumbleweed. It's also a rolling but slower, less daily packages and roughly every three months a bigger update to catch back up.

@@LowTechLinux Thank you. I had an issue with the install yesterday and wanted to get back you. Second time around it ran through it (cough cough, walked?) without issue. I want to thank you for your videons on OpenSuse. I looked at some others, who spoke way too fast and who just assumed we were at a certain point. You don't do that. I REALLY appreciate you and the way you present. I'm not a novice concerning linux, as I said yesterday, been using it since RedHat 1998/9? Also an x-cissp (got tired of paying the dues), but we can always learn new things. Bottom line. I THINK THIS IS THE BEST DISTRO I'VE USED IN MANY YEARS. Now I've only been in it for a couple days, but I really like the way it does things. I did have a monitor issue with the task bar and sign in being on my outboard monitor, which I "kind of" fixed, but other than that, it's fantastic. The correct way to change the default zone is by actually clicking on "Zones" and then it lists all the zones and which one is the actual default. It shows a check mark . You select the zone you want to make the default one and click on the "Set As Default" button. This also results in it adding your network interface to the screen where you had just the docker one. I do hope that at some point, Yast will be a thing of the past as it's really gotten long in the tooth and some of the things in there were not very intuitive. At least to me. On more gotcha for those of you who have scanners with non-opensource drivers. Opensuse by default deactivates all the drivers /etc/sane.d/dll.conf . They use a script to then detect if the newly inserted USB device has a driver available and activates it. In theory, well their theory this helps mitigate security issues. In practice, it deviates from the sane project's default settings and wastes one's time :/

Alongside Debian, OpenSuse is one of the oldest and mature distributions. If you look for a stable distribution and you want to focus on what you need to do, not on the operating system, then Leap is a good choice. Is also a good choice because is flexible, if you don't want a bloated system you can do a server install, choose the base pattern you want for your DE and finally you install only what you'll use.

@folksurvival they're both designed for the utmost stability and both have older packages of everything. There's a slight difference on the two about which packages are older but not by much.
