All the front-loader mfgrs use the same design in "their" washers... I'm finishing up a spider replacement in a Samsung washer now... I replaced the spider in my LG TROMM washer a few months ago... I saw the insides of a Kenmore front-loader... They are ALL very similar machines inside, and it doesn't matter whose name is on the front panel... They are all using sacrificial metal spiders... It's called "Planned Breakdown", and they do it so "they" can sell parts to people in +/- 6 to 7 years for the purpose of... yup, you guessed it... Making money...

On the back side of the starter generator pulley clutch that's connected there's 13 mm nuts on the back of it. You can put on there to hold the clutch instead of dealing with that and your cylinder head

That’s why my wife insisted on, we buy a speed, queen, heavy duty commercial and made in the USA. She does three loads a day for the last 10 years running without a flaw.

My washing machine leaks. I suspect that the metal has corroded where the water enters the soap dispenser and it leaks down the inside front shell, and has rusted it from the inside. I think the leak happens every time the water is flowing into the the dispenser. The machine still works but I have to put a towel down on the left side of it or there's a puddle in my laundry room. Definitely inferior metal.

I would like to know if this issue still exists today
@mels8966 Жыл бұрын
Biologically induced intergranular corrosion can be an issue in some washing machines suffering from heavy deposits of biofilm. Can be prevented by maintaining the machine properly. eg leave the door open between washes to help it dry, avoid cold washes, do occasional 60°C+ washes (you may need to select a higher temperature on some machines to actually reach 60°C), use a powder detergent or stain remover containing oxygen bleach plus activator (sodium percarbonate, plus TAED, or NOBS), or a laundry sanitiser .

OK...I immediately knew when I saw the inner tub caked with funk that this machine was abused... when I say abused I'm talking they probably used cold water only...overloaded the machine, used too little or too much soap, probably didn't leave the door open to dry out...My Duet front load washer from 2005 has an aluminum spider and it's approaching 19 years old.... I can't say 100% but I'm willing to bet this happened because of user error... Just don't overload them, use occasionally hot water washes and leave the door slightly opened...I've never had mold or bad smells and I think this has kept my spider from deteriorating.

Lol the thing with people nowadays is that they would rather buy a new machine rather than maintaining their current ones. Buy a German car and do toyota corolla level of maintenances. That is this society. People dont even read the manuals on these things. It tells you how to care for them. Run "Pure Cycle" once a month.. its a self cleaner... you know how many washers ive seen where people are too lazy or too uneducated to use a self washing option... crazy

Its cause by the powder detergent (lime)…always Use the liquid type of detergent.

For sakes, your washer looks gross. U using fabric softener or too much soap? I had to recently replace my spider arm on my samsung front load (not that difficult to change) and it didn’t look half as bad.

We bought a Samsung front loading washing machine in 2009 when we moved into our new house. We were a family of 5 (three sons) with a sixth person, my sister-in-law, living with us to make 6 people. Seven years later, in 2016, I replaced this part as it had disintegrated. The job wasn't fun, but with a few hand tools and KZbin I was able to replace it myself. This last year I had to replace it again which means that the part replaced in 2016 failed in about the same 7 year period. Some might consider this horrible, however, this is the ONLY problem that we've had with this washer, so we are not at all dissatisfied with it given the amount of use it gets. I should also point out that we have a well, with pretty hard water. Hope someone finds this helpful.

happened on my parents Maytag after 20 years. Don't use as much soap and stop using fabric softener. fabric softener leaves a waxy build up which traps water and corrodes it faster.

We had the Samsung spider go bad on one of our front loaders. It ran for 8 or 10 years before failing and that was likely the original spider since we bought the set used. If your washing machine starts to make more noise and a hard time to spin during the cycle it can be the spider going bad. It's cheaper to change it out when it starts to go bad than to wait till it falls apart. Ours broke the top of the tub encloser and gasket so we had to buy those part as well. It cost about $350 for parts - tub encloser, spider, and door gasket. Way cheaper than buying another set even used. We used youtube instruction videos to make the repair. It really wasn't hard. I've read this is common with pretty much all front loaders. Even so, we prefer the front load machines so we will just keep fixing them.

The same thing happened to us I have photos but ours was in much worse condition than yours was . We were surprised it worked at all in that condition. Keeps finding pieces in the filter cleanings and for the life of use we had no idea the machine was being eaten alive from inside out. They should have made it out of a different material like stainless

Excellent post! In all fairness to Samsung, and I am not a fan boy, my 10 yr old GE front loader had the exact same problem of corroded spider arm. And you know, I couldn't find a new replacement spider arm for my machine and guess whose parts were readily available- Samsung. GE wanted me to buy the whole drum assembly. Couldn't spend the $$ for 10 year old machine.

I have the same problem with my Samsung front load washer. It will spin but thunks around Gets down to seven minutes and then goes back to 16 minutes and put water in it again in an unending cycle. Suspect it’s a corroded spider arm as well

Exact same thing happened to my Kenmore He3t which we bought in 2003. So it lasted 19 years before the bracket finally fell apart. Only problem is, machine's so old it's almost impossible to find the bracket for this specific model. If it would have broken down say 10 years ago we'd probably be in luck. Some owners have resorted to making and welding their own steel bracket.

Everything you buy these days has a part that will break , that's how they can sell parts and services. This part is also attacked by soap and water .I just replaced mine and that Spider cost 192 cdn plus 43 for 6 bolts original Samsung. I did it my self but how much is a Service Man gonna charge.

Just repaired my samsung broken after 15 years of use. I ignored the increased shaking started couple of years ago, the broken shock absorbers lead to breaking the spider axle. I replaced the said 3 parts and now it runs again like new. The shock absorbers take a beating and have a limited service life. If your machine breaks down because of run down shock absorbers does not mean planned obsolescence.
