Otsu Clement! I think the market for Original stuff is also very selective and fanbase indeed does matter a lot TwT! <-- Have tried selling a mix of original and fanart once before and well...lmao I'm not super good at talking at the booth either but what I try to do when there is a customer is to at least make eye contact and smile. I'm also scared to say hi because I know sometimes that chases people away but I find that at least giving them a smile makes you seem a bit more approachable HAHAHA All the best for EOY!
@kuehmerlion13 күн бұрын
Thank you Mints! I tried to do the same as you - with the eye contact and smile, but because I usually wear a mask, I have to rely on my eyes alone to smile, and that's kinda tough haha. I will try a slightly different approach for EOY and I will review it from there xD

I love buying original art! Problem for me is I work retail and rarely get off days on weekend, not to mention these event only last 2 days and open form morning until 7pm. Wished these last longer so I could go! there's also another issue where these event doesn't get as much advertisement out. Sure there's advertisement near the booth, but not a lot on social media! I have to follow all my favorite artist to even know which booth and event they are going/setting up for! I followed and subscribed to you on both KZbin and Insta to get information on the latest news/events that would be happening!
@kuehmerlion17 күн бұрын
@@yenglee5069 I can relate with you, because I used to work irregular hours and weekends/holidays at retail too. Most smaller events don't do a lot of external advertising so it mostly boils down to the artist's own network and word of mouth. Thank you for subscribing!

@icemelontea11 күн бұрын
Public garden is very crowded. I only see 1 handsome guy manning a booth that sells the common anime convention merch, his stickers 1 for $1 is popular. Come to think of it, if you booth at a non-anime related artist event, do you think you would do better or worst? The booth rental is $500+ for 2 days (source: i asked the handsome guy XD). It might be an advantage because there is little to no competition as well as a high traffic, but not sure how well your art will be received. EOY 2024 I passed, I don't want to support events that keeps getting more and more expensive each year (1 day ticket price SGD$21.90 + $1.48 = $23.38). Cosfest still the best, coughs.
@kuehmerlion10 күн бұрын
@@icemelontea That's good info! I will do a quick visit later today because the timing was very bad (EOY 12pm-8pm vs PG 1pm-7pm); No choice but to sneak out of EOY in between. From my understanding, Public Garden doesn't accept direct applications for specific events. I did poorly at FOMO which was a non-anime event, but I didn't sell anime/video games stuff there too which is my main bulk of merch, so it is hard to say if I would have done much better in comparison. I understand. EOY tix this year is pretty steep. Even though Cosfest is cheaper in comparison, I don't like that besides the small stage, con-goers are mostly still paying the admission to go in to see the exhibitors and artists (and spend more money). I think of it like paying admission to enter a shopping mall xP. Their sister event ACE, doesn't even have a stage or performance and charge for a tix too. =(

Hi Clement~ I was also participating at FOMO V3, and my sales weren’t that great either. 🥲 I think target audience is really important for me as I've made quite good sales at university/poly events where most of my customer age group would be which makes sense... For FOMO I feel like there was a mix of different age groups customers etc. and they might've been more selective with which booth they want to spend on since there was so many different artists in one space... I was also quite introverted in my sales method, which is me behind my booth allowing the customers to freely browse... which I did thought about to improve on in the future. But overall looking on the bright side I think being around so many different artists was also a good opportunity to connect with them and also having the opportunity to booth with this event organizer was pretty nice considering they heavily promote original arts~ Hope for more huats for 2025! -Domo Arts Studio

DOMO ARTS!!!! It's so good to see your comment here. I never thought about the problem of having a mix crowd of varying age groups, but from what you have described, it definitely seemed like it was what happened during FOMO that weekend. I haven't gone to enough events like this so I thought it was the norm aka the general audience. But yea, that is one broad group of people, now that I think about it. I personally have also let customers browse my table, and I would only interject if they ask anything and thank them when they leave. But after observing how some of the creators sell (and admire their marketing ability), I am beginning to think I have been too complacent in this regard. Yes, more huat to us for 2025 and beyond! 😁

I totally feel u on needing to be more extroverted when selling original art!! I also tend to be more introverted & i'm afraid of being pushy when it comes to selling my own things. I hope EOY will be a good event for u :) jy to all small business!
@kuehmerlion17 күн бұрын
It is the exact same thing for me, because I don;t want to come off as pushy, especially if I imagined myself in the customer's shoes, I would rather just browse quietly on my own. It is a tough balance of being friendly and passive that I am still figuring out. 🥲 I will try to be a little more approachable for EOY and see how it goes.

I AM HERE FOR THE CORRECTION 🤓 Last year was actually the first Maker's Quest so MSQ has never been a FF14 centric event. I think the misconception is because in 2019, the same organizers announced that they were going to hold a FF14 centric event called Party Finder on the same day as Hanami Market. It was supposed to be a collaboration, like 2 events running simultaneously cos both organizers are friends. The event never ended up happening because it was supposed to be held in March 2020 (iirc) and then the pandemic struck. The same organizers then decided to come back with their own event called Maker's Quest and the decision to make it open to non-FF14 creators is also because they felt that just limiting it to FF14 would not bring enough people in. I think it doesn't help that all known organizers ( I am not one of them! ) are primarily known for their FF14 content and they do try and make a lot of FF14 themed games to celebrate the franchise (including the yearly standees) but for all official matters and purposes, they were never a FF14 only event 😂😂😂 But I'm glad you had a really good experience and good sales!!! The turnout this year was much more than last year and I would thank the new expansion releasing just a month ago for it. I hope the crowd wasn't too much of a hassle to wade through and SORRY FOR NOT NOTICING YOU WHILE YOU WERE BY MY BOOTH AND OUT IN THE WILD AAAAAAA. Hope can see you again in the near future!
@kuehmerlion27 күн бұрын
Thank you Mints for the clarification! Gonna pin this up for all who stumbled into this video~ My memory definitely mixed up Party Finder and MSQ together, since like you mentioned, they were by the same organisers. Because of that, I had an impression it had happened, even though it never did - due to the pandemic. Me and my boothmate didn't manage to wade through the crowd to get to the other end, where the message board was. That area was so packed throughout the day, and might have been the spot where the super popular creators were. No idea though, since we could never get close to that zone haha. But having such a big crowd was nice to see for a change, especially when the couple of events I have been, they were on the lacklustre side. Not good for stopping to chat though, but we are all here for business first anyway xD

@@kuehmerlion YEAH our area was really packed, I noticed you also just got to where my booth was and then immediately U-turned HAHAHAHAHA Honestly a lot of people, esp ppl who pre-ordered stuff from me, said that it was hard to get to that general area cos of the large crowd so it caused some issues ToT. Hi! I saw your video while browsing for how to prep for SGCC and i have to say thank you very much for sharing your insight! This is going to be my first time boothing there with my friends and we're from Indonesia, so there's been a lot of questions in our minds. Do you think SGCC will be welcoming for products such as comics/zine/art prints or the buyers are more catered toward "accessories" merchandise like keychains, pins and stickers?
@kuehmerlion27 күн бұрын
Hi! I am so sorry for the late reply as youtube didn't notify me about this. I hope this reached you in time, with the 2024 SGCC just literally around the corner. From my own experience, since SGCC is more about Western comics and toys, I would think that the visitors going there will be more interested in those, over anything else. But I have seen some booths doing reasonably well, selling t-shirts, accessories, cute trinkets - with a mix of pop culture element to them (think Labubu-inspired etc.). Even by Singapore standard, SGCC is a very expensive event to booth at, so the risks are inherently higher. Unfortunately again this year, SGCC is happening right after Anime Festival Asia (AFA) event so I would imagine that most of the anime or Japanese pop culture fans would skip SGCC, meaning that the core demographic actually appearing at SGCC is expected to be more Western fandom-leaning fans.

I think the drop off from 2022 is also partially due to the big increase in ticket prices. I went with my friends in 2019, when it was only like $20, and again in 2022, when it was still under $30. But I can't justify $40 just to see mostly the same stuff I see at other cons, and I know most of my friends didn't go either. Unless you're a hardcore comics fan I think its hard to justify the entry cost.
@kuehmerlion3 ай бұрын
It is the same for me, I really cannot justify for myself paying more than $30 for a single day ticket to a convention. But it seems that this trend of ticket price increase won't be stopping anytime soon, and I can only hope it won't reach nearly as bad and expensive as western cons.
@mcrksman4 ай бұрын
Imo NTP is the worst(not counting ddam) organiser in SG, which is unforunate because as you said they host one of the largest events. They've definitely gotten lazy and are relying on creators and reputation to bring in a crowd, and with all their complaints about boothers subletting, crowding behind booths, etc, and the "threats" against artists doing that for next years event, my opinion of them is rather low. Where other organisers at least pretend to care about boothers, with free water, better tables and the like, it feels like NTP are just taking advantage of the fact that there are always more artists than booths so they can get away with whatever. Which is not to say the event is terrible, since it still runs somewhat smoothly, but considering we're the ones paying, and doing the promo for them, the least they could do is let us share booths freely to help absorb some of the cost. After all they wouldn't be here without us
@kuehmerlion3 ай бұрын
It is really unfortunate, and even if a few creators choose to not go for such events, they are still the minority and event organisers don't have that kind of urgency or need to change and improve since there are still a lot more creators and potential boothers willing to jump in for a chance to enter their events regardless - take for instance how well-received and oversubscribed Doujima 2025 was.
