What an interesting chat. I too was in my school fishing club and over 30 years later are still really good friends. We fished in the regent house club on the lower bann. Brilliant days. Many fish then big hybrids and bream and lots of gudgeon too and perch. Loads of trout at Portglenone. The river now is an algae filled sewer. Heart breaking. The schools comp at movanagher and portadown too. I once won movanagher match in the mid 90,s with 3.6 kilos of bream. Only me and the next peg caught. 40 plus blanks. Great days of learning coarse fishing. Thanks for the video.

@@pikingadventures2872 I have been watching scobes yourself and outdoors dave for a long time. 3 very different channels but all enjoyable in their own way. Your channel is probably most similar to my own fishing growing up. Teaching myself how to fish. My grandparents used to take me to the quoile or lower bann or movanagher or ballyhurley lough in portaferry. Sometimes fishing holidays to Enniskillen or cootehill in cavan. They knew nothing about fishing but provided the transport snacks and encouragement. Many happy memories on the bank. I have lived in England for 26 years and have taken my own kids pike fishing or carp fishing. Now that they are teens not so much now. Looking forward to part 2

I am just starting to use bobbers for pike fishing. I have one rod that is a trolling rod with a levelwind reel and one rod that has a spinning reel. Both will be casted and then put in rod holders. Once I cast poles and put in rod holders, should I have reels engaged or should I put levelwind reel In freespool and leave bail open on spinner reel? Also not sure how long I should let pike take bait before reeling. Thanks
@pikingadventures2872Күн бұрын
I guess it's down to personal preference but I always put the fishes safety first so I would keep the reel engaged and strike straight away rather than leave it in case it gets deep hooked. Thanks for watching :)

The best thing about pike fishing in Ireland is busting them with a nice big lump of wood after netting. It’s a great local tradition around Lough Mask and Lough Corrib for the whole family to go out for a days pike killing. It’s a great way to introduce young people to fishing and they love getting their hands dirty while controlling vermin.

How do you know that you are at the right depth
@pikingadventures28722 жыл бұрын
If the float won't sit upright it means you're too deep and the weight is on the bottom. Shorten it up by moving the sliding knot closer to the float gradually each cast until your float 'cocks' upright. Then fish just off the bottom for a while and if nothing bites take it up a bit more each time to see if they're midwater or looking up for food instead of down. 👍😉

I use a single hook through the back of a live minnow. I just don't know when to set the hook. I lost about 4 like today because I either set the hook to early or too late. I had a pike gradually take the bobber out, then stop then it started traveling again so I set the hook. Nope didn't work. So I did it later still nothing. Any thoughts? IL going to pick up one of those kits. Get some more hook might help.
@pikingadventures28722 жыл бұрын
Could be that a strike is not setting the hook well. Try simply tightening down until you feel the weight of the fish and gently easing into it. I think that might get the hook to go into the scissors and set better.
@bingbongbingbongbingbongbing90 Жыл бұрын
Its tricky because nobody likes deep hooks (especially with trebles) but pike tend to play with or nibble the bait before swimming off with it. Also worth noting they have quite hard mouths so you got to set the hook with a bit of force.
@dylankplays85273 жыл бұрын
Would you not just use a float stop instead of a “knot” 😂🤷🏻♂️

Good video but you need to lay the fish flat on a surface before injecting air or anything. If you get yourself with that needle, you could put air into your bloodstream and that can be fatal. Be careful mate.

@@pikingadventures2872 I am not sure what might bite, but the local ponds have carp,koi, goldfish, golden shiner, bullhead catfish, white sucker, perch, white perch, bullhead catfish, white suckers, round gobies, pumkinseed and bluegill sunfishes, black crappie, largemouth bass pike, and allegedly eels. I got my first pike on dead bait a few weeks ago and plan to fish for carp in the coming weeks. I can also fish Lake Ontario for those species plus Walleye (think Zander), Freshwater Drum and several species of trout and salmon when it's cool enough to bring them within casting distance from shore. It will take me years to figure out all of the spots, but I am going to try coarse fishing tactics this summer for the first time to see how it works over here.

Absolute loved the video Sam. Love your enthusiasm and sheer joy to be out piking! I had problems on a lake near Saintfield Co Down about 20+ years ago with the farmer. He said I was blocking his lane (which I wasnt) and gave me a load of abuse screaming and shouting at me. I was only about 19 at the time and was a bit spooked. Instead of coming to the lake side and asking me to move he phoned the cops straight away. They never asked me to move either. They just phoned my parents who had no idea where the lake was and this was pre mobile days. When I got back to the car he was waiting and was frothing at the mouth. I did catch 5 good pike there but not worth the hassle ever again! In England where I live now you never get this as all the fisheries are either day ticket, club stretches/lakes or are free fishing. Everywhere else is private and definite no go (like most of the river Test). I literally have 5 day ticket pike lakes within 10 mins of my house and about 20+ carp day ticket waters within 20 minutes. In my experience Co Down farmers are very hostile to anglers unlike Fermanagh/Cavan/Monaghan who seem used to it and much more friendly and will even offer to help with a quad for carrying your gear!. So when I am over I just dont fish on any farm land. Unless with permission or pay a day ticket. My friend in Ards has caught loads of very good pike to 18lb this winter in a lake very near you with the farmers permission and a small day ticket fee. I could send you a private message about it if you wish. Strike early, strike often and keep making the videos Sam!

You need the reel handle on the other side of your baitcaster, the same as your fixed spooled reels. Try stopping the lure just before it hits the water with your thumb on the spool should prevent a lot of the birds nests. Gd luck keep at it 👍🏻

Haha I totally nailed it during the course of making that video and the trip after. I got most of it on the GoPro and I’ll probably do a video of me going from zero to well... competent. There may be a lot of negativity during the journey and some swearing haha but I got there
@Sabaskong3 жыл бұрын
Might be a wise decision to get your hands on a left side handle baitcaster with digital cast control (SLX 151 DC, or Curado DC) to prevent any further trouble and birds nests. There‘s nothing better to cast multi trebled plugs and jerkbaits tangle free but a baitcasting reel.
