The Vuvuzela completely ruined that tournament....... couldn't watch those games with that godawful constant drone. Imagine saving your money to go on the vacation of a lifetime to support your team in the World Cup in South Africa and you have to sit through 90 minutes of that noise?

When I coached youth soccer, we'd play "suicide goal keeper" if we were down a goal at the end. There were multiple times over the years where I had to remind the ref that we had no GK, so a pass that looked legit because of the defender was still offside.

How do commentators not know the rules? He even has the replay to look at which is marking the offside line from the goalie.

The referee is right, but the rule is stupid. I don't mean offside, but this nuance. When I first learned about this nuance, I was also stunned and did not understand what the point was, and I still don't see the point. Offside is a good rule that improves football. This nuance does not improve football, it only confuses and angers. I think so because I really don't see any profits.

The Offside rule is made with the second last defender, so the attacking player has to be behind/on one line with the second last player, if the goal counts fairly. The graphic shows it

I can understand the confusion. They change these rules so often now, it's hard to keep up.

Not going to lie. I knew about this rule before I was 10 years old. Being a huge football fan at a young age and all. Amazed me that even to this day, people think I am talking rubbish when I tell them about this rule and that you simply cannot pass forward to teammate if you are behind the goalkeeper, and there is only one defender there. The rule has good reasoning for being in the game too. The rule in basic form is that you need two opposition players ahead of you. Simple as that. Just any 2 players. Usually its Goalkeeper plus 1 defender. Take the goalkeeper out and that means 2 defenders. You always need 2, to pass it forward. You usually never see it because, simply the goalkeeper isn't out as often, and when they are out, the attacker tends to be too close to the goal, so shoots or goes backwards.

Why are a lot of people describing the rule so difficult? Simply put: you just need 2 players between you and the goal line. Doesn't matter if they are field players or keepers, that has nothing to do with it. In this case it is just one.

The goalkeeper counts as an outfield player aswell he could go play in defence if he wanted to it’s just not recommended. Hence why it’s still offside.
