I'm going to write this in Spanish. Y, no... Estaba ERRADO.

This inspired me to restore a old wrench I had a little different the hardest and scary part was removing the screws and spring, it's not perfect by any means but it's better then someone throwing it in the trash

( 3:47) I have Citri Strip!😃. I think it"'s pretty good stuff. By the way, it looks like you got scammed by those Gator paint removal wheels. Just use liquid paint stripper, it's way better.

Nice restoration. I've seen this color of hammered paint used now on a couple of vise restorations. I think it's my favorite color! Great job on using what you have and using your drill press to make your new handles. Cool. I'm gonna subscribe for sure! 👍🍻

Absolutely incredible job. Made all the more impressive because the end result is not really a practical tool compared to normal chrome vanadium tools but it's a fantastic paper weight, something to fondle endlessly 😁

Overall a very nice restoration job. My question is, Why don't you plate all those polished steel parts? If left unplated they will eventually rust. I think that they are originally lightly plated.

Wonderful work! Even the optics replaced. Nice attention to functionality, even though I doubt many people know how to use it. I certainly don’t. Interesting fasteners. I wonder if the cross head machine screws have replaced slot head types from 1840? I can’t recall when accurate & therefore interchangeable screws and female threaded pieces became commonplace. Iirc it was much later than 1840.

Aesthetically, a remarkable recovery. Does it work as a hand plane? I only realised recently how vital it is that the planar surface of a plane is actually planar! It sounds obvious & perhaps it is, but what I hadn’t realised is how common it is that they go out of plane through rough handling, wear etc. I saw a fellow use a true flat block, an engineering piece, and a micrometer, to assess how far out the plane bed was from end to end. On a 12” plane, it was something like 8’’’ out at its worst. The plane was no good as a tool. He showed using engineers blue where the high areas & eventually just high spots were. The most astonishing thing was how he returned it to true, by scraping only. I think he had carbide scrapers and was able, by hand, to scrape tiny pieces of metal off, returning it to his engineers block test rig periodically. Hours of patient work eventually returned the plane to its superb original working condition, able to delicately shave ultra fine shavings off long, even hardwood pieces. Previously, it would skim and bounce, removing nothing, then dig in horribly, marring the work. Up to that point, when using a smaller 8” plane, when this kind of thing had happened to me, I assumed it was because I’d failed to sharpen the blade correctly or I’d set the blade projection improperly (which were both possible, as well!). I’ve never had the true flat equipment to check it properly, but what it prompted me to do was to bring into service my spare, nearly identical plane (both are Record brand) and boy is it so much better of a tool! I have parked my old one, because I hate to throw things out. Perhaps in the future, someone will “service” it (doubt it). I admire this gentleman’s dedication to his craft / hobby. I do not intend this comment to be anything other than of potential assistance or education for anyone who might be interested. Definitely not criticism. I couldn’t do a fraction of the skilful restoration I’ve enjoyed in this channel, and I tinker a lot.
