So sorry you didn't get the audio for the activation! Great job showing how you can use a kite with an efhw. I had long wondered about that. We have some friends that have boats. We've talked about doing an activation from about. I was thinking we could go pretty slow and use a kite. After seeing you use the grounding, I'm wondering if that might be unwise 😂

Well said! Morse code must be learned by sound, like any other language.

There's a free app called MoreMania that kind of works on that same idea. Fairly gamified, so it's fun to do. Worth checking out.

I spent 10 years at sea in the merchant marine as a radio officer. When I first started college there were guys there who'd started 'learning' morse at home before college started. They'd used all the 'learn morse in 10 minutes' nonsense. When we actually started to learn it at college they were at a real disadvantage as they had to unlearn all the dots and dashes and relearn the sounds. What you say about practice is right too. An hour a day 5 days a week for 2 years 🙄

Cool show. How dangerous is that in its present form? I do a lot of exploring and camping and never really test the areas I am in.

It really isn't very dangerous. That said, treat it like any chemical, don't sleep with it under your pillow and wash your hands.

I liked that you used this memory method. Reminds me of the Pimsleur Method of language learning involving spaced repetition. ;D The focus is on making a direct response and building up length and increasing the interval. Usually the first thing learned in the first lesson is to respond with the word for "excuse me". Having to learn code in the Boy Scouts long ago, I can see now why I never really learned it then.

Cool !!! Another hint : when you're handling power kites and you want some extra protection (and sometimes extra control during the handling of the kite), always wear some decent quality gloves ! Your hands will thank you, eventually.

You could but natural occuring radioactive material is either uranium or thorium generally and a spectrometer is used more for identification than discovery.

question if i may..im not saying youre wrong,im saying its new and ive never done this. i have heard about kite antennas and everytime they used a spark gap to discharge the wire waving around in the magnetic field causeing current flow to gnd. do i need a earth spark gap with your 49:1 video ant please. OR how do you manage it. you showed earth wire from gnd stake to chassis of 817.is that it or is there more caution please

Because the entire antenna is DC coupled, grounding your radio will ground the entire antenna system.
