Class, Trinity is great, I did my degree there as a mature student, starting at 30, in the evenings after work. Opened up a lot of doors for the future. Still work in town the odd time and I love walking through the campus, it’s incredible.

Toni Morrison is one of my biggest writing inspirations and I read most of her books this year, I'll be finishing up the 3 books I didn't get to later this year too! I've read all of the books you touched on here and I love what you said about Beloved and Song of Solomon so much. Song of Solomon isn't my favorite in the world because it was a bit too much for him but I'm inspired to reread this.

You seem to have got the essence of Ireland - story telling is part of every aspect of Irish life. Every day conversations outside of Ireland are often less engaging. Bravo for the solo traveling and taking public transport - and yes the late sunsets are disconcerting, they really mess with perception of time.

I think you'll love a Little Luck! And i'm the same, i can't handle horror stories, but if you are looking for more latin american short story horror collections, I can't recommend enough, Her Body and Other Parties (esp. the very first story! all the others were fine but the first was my favorite). The same author, Carmen Maria Machado, wrote one of the most notable memoirs I think of the past few decades, playing with narrative form as she tracks the unraveling of a toxic relationship. Along the same lines, if you want Grimm's fairy tales vibes but with a fun Korean twist, Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung is fantastic.

HAHAHAHHA two votes for irritated, I dig this 😂 I think that bloating sense of her erasure was interesting. I think what annoyed me the most about the ending of The Guest was how everyone kind of blew it out of proportion on social media before I was able to get to it! There was so much hype and when I finally got to it I was like okay, yeah, it is crazy in a sense, and I liked how eerie it was, but also… that’s it? Idk!!
