Goddamn...the novel by Diane Duane explained this so well. It's unbelievable how irrational, emotional and warlike ancient Vulcan was. Imagine humanoids three times stronger than us with uncontrolled temper and impulses to match and technologically more advanced than us. Would we like to meet them one day? Hell , no way

At least, it wasn't Pa'nar Syndrome or Trellium addiction! I wonder if Spock knew about Cdr. T'Pol's past history. She didn't have Pon Farr in the decon chamber; the spores made her think she did in 'Bounty'.Could his father be related to hers?

It's the 7 year cycle. He doesn't fight for a mate he dies. He fought for T'pring but when the thought he killed Kirk he got his senses back. Vulcan mating isn't exactly on the menu for discussion for any Vulcan if they can help it.

Hehe true. It might be possible to achieve this now, basically the door would require a sensor that reads when a user is walking towards it by reducing distance vs just being adjacent.
