Big Mindy skip update: As of December 2024, it's fully understood how Mindy skip works, and we're also a bit more knowledgeable when it comes to bowl storage. A bit of it goes over my head and not all of it is relevant to understanding Mindy skip, so I've typed a slightly abridged explanation below: When bowl storage is active, data gets sent to an address that housed the explosion effect in SCDA Spongeball, but in Knucklehead that address now houses a seaweed. Setting up Mindy skip writes a flag onto the seaweed to reload itself after a scene reset. Getting grabbed by Hans, which is a scene reset, reloads the seaweed. This has unintended side effects, including mangling Mindy's textboxes in a way that disables them, allowing us to skip her entirely. However, the game leaks a tiny amount of memory every load regardless of bowl storage. On every 4 loads, it leaks more than usual which adds an offset to memory, causing the skip to fail and even crash. Reloading Knucklehead before it crashes and redoing the skip will make it work again, since you're no longer on a multiple of 4. Additionally, SpongeBob levels likely can't be used to chain bowl storage effects, e.g. No Cheese > SCDA Spongeball > Knucklehead should be identical to SCDA Spongeball > Knucklehead (which can't normally be done). If this is true, which looks to be the case, the only levels that are worth chaining and/or testing for bowl storage effects are every sliding/driving level, Frogfish, Dennis, every Floating Block, and Plank combat arena. Of these, only the sliding/driving levels and SCDA FB are realistically worth testing, but the others could be good for chain effects. Reloading the same non-SpongeBob level repeatedly could possibly lead to something too, but would likely lead to an eventual crash. We've also proven a theory that if we manage to reset Mindy's *last* text-box when she assigns us a task in a sliding/driving level, it would skip the entire challenge. Who knows if we'll ever find this, especially as there's still a ton of variables (having already seen the fly-through cutscene at the beginning, whether you're on a multiple of 4 loads as some effects crash *outside* of the 4th load, which sliding/driving task you're on, your chain, what costume you're wearing, and probably other things I'm forgetting), but we're a lot closer to finding a second bowl storage timesave than ever, and we can stop wasting time on levels that are extremely unlikely or maybe impossible(?) to have effects. Shoutout to Dr Underscore for finding this, who wasn't even part of the community and only got intrigued with bowl storage because this game accepted into AGDQ 2025. He used the BFBB Decomp project (and an Incredibles prototype, as well as the Xemu emulator) to help solve Mindy skip, so shoutout to the BFBB community too.

I love that any game that has potential to be speed ran can be.

As someone who is not a speedrunner, I don't mind having to load my games from a hard drive because my disc drive on my console is messed up. I just want a reliable way to play the game on real hardware. Plus there's so many great Xbox exclusives that deserve to be experienced on real hardware, even if it's not from a real disc.

Cool video! During my playgtrough I also noticed some bugs and out of bounds. Most of the bugs were in Planktopolis. Inreally think that this area was really rushed during developement. I hate it so much, its easily the worst part the game for me. I really love how broken this game is. I also think that the game is pretty difficult for a „kids game“

~28:40 "It's really hard" I did this casually within 10 (if not 5) minutes of attempts when going through the GameCube version of the game for RetroAchievements just from watching a video with an input display and noticing the visual cues, and you're telling me this trick is hard?! 😂😂😂 (I guess maybe there's framerate differences on other systems that make it tougher? Or maybe I just got lucky and developed a feel for the trick rather quickly...)

Okay, but it would be even funnier if that actually worked and there was just an out of bounds warp that said "Press R to warp to Turn The Tables On Plankton" (like one of those Spongeball/Floating Block/Combat Arena Challenge entrance panels)

I'm actually really interested in bowl storage now. Has it been tested further on either Xbox or PS2 because I've got the PS2 version and kinda want to try it. Also does bowl storage work different on Xbox 360/PS3 or is it relatively the same? Fun video to watch all the way through.

Honestly, it feels surreal that I've been following your channel for nearly 5 years (bruh, I'm old) and witnessed essentially an entire era of this game's speedrun history. The fact that I happened to check the Twitch directory for this game basically right after you returned from a long hiatus in 2019 feels like fate and I still sorta reflect on the coincidental nature of that even nowadays. It's been an awesome ride watching you display your passion for this quirky little licensed movie tie-in game nearly two decades after its initial relevancy in the mid-2000s and I hope future runners get motivated from your efforts and "don't let the flame die out" so to speak. Congrats on getting times you're satisfied with in every category (besides any% xdd) and I wish you luck with whatever you ultimately end up doing from here on out!
