I’ve become obsessed with these speedrun vids of Movie over the past 24 hours and to wake up and find that you’ve done it again is amazing! This is truly enjoyable, my favorite childhood game. I have a lot of memories with this game, i just got 100% completion for it a few days ago for the first time. I’ve first played it 13-14 years ago and it’s one of my earliest video game memories. I love this game

Im in the same boat, im 11mins in this vid so far, it took me some hours to get to where he is on the 11 min mark ( although i was going for goober tokens as they were available ) i got dolphin emu on my phone and can play it directly on my phone just great as it was a gamecube release ( me and all my friends grew up on ps2 and i didnt know it was a gamecube game also until just a couple years ago ). Me and a friend played this game all the time and were stuck on so many missions that i now find easy being grown. We got to neptune dont get me wrong, but ik we never beat him sadly, and its something that haunts me today. These strats are fucking baffling, the glitches are crazy, im not gonna use anything though and play it as intended until after i beat neptune.

The game can register some inputs before being stuck in a wall-jump state. Shortly after using guitar, I used the laggy upgrade menu to phase through the wall, then had to spin to guide myself to the other side. That was a lag buffer which turns a one-frame trick into more like a 1/4 or 1/5th of a second window. It does grant a little more height though, making a ledge-grab skip here consistent

Do you get nervous when you speedrun? Like, afraid of making a mistake? Just doing something isolated from what you do is already quite difficult, imagine doing everything in sequence without stopping.

Yeah, I think all runners do really. I was really nervous this run, but nervousness can easily cause mistakes so it's best not to focus on it too much. A very overlooked aspect of speedrunning is mentality. If you worry about every trick and focus too much on how good the run is, you're much more likely to make mistakes. Not overthinking or getting too angry is important, but we're all people and it's only inevitable, though we can still mitigate it.

Normally to get the super-jump there, a one-frame is required. But lagging the game can buffer it to make it a lot easier. There's a few different types of lag and lag buffers but I'll just say what's needed for this one specifically. On OG Xbox, two "back" inputs in quick succession generates a lot of lag. Then, we press "start" to open the task menu. We wanna jump one frame after closing the menu. This is still a one-frame but a much easier one, and the lag ensures we've setup the right frame to jump in the first place

If you’re referring to the damage boost, it’s just a matter of holding the Y button during the damage animation to buffer the bash input

Bowl storage is pretty much the only theoretical way but it's extremely unlikely. We'd either trick Mindy into thinking we have 40 tokens, or we'd be able to upgrade guitar, despite not having it, which then gives us the move
