Awesome Vid 👍 I've A Ton of questions but I'll limit myself for A few Atm. 1. What suspension did you go for? (I'm running 890 Adventure with stock as stock can be suspension and would like to attempt one of the ACT Tracks in 2025) 2. Have you had any major reliability issues at all? 3. Still in the 6 Counties or headed further afield? 4. Will you stick with KTM after all the Shenanigans they've gotten themselves into? Cheers Again and looking forward to looking through the past vids. 👍

Thanks Big D! Here goes.. 1. Standard suspension should get you through an ACT, but I'll detail why I changed and what I changed to in new video soon. 2. See my 890 engine swap videos for the details of why I swapped in a Duke R engine. (There's some suspension mentioned in the first video). 3. Nope, I left in 1990. I'm based in Scotland, so not too far away from home. 4. Can't see me ever selling Triggers Broom, but may get something different in the future. There's not much out there that appeals to me due to by short statue. As for KTM, I bought a load of shares on the cheap, so fingers crossed they'll still be around long enough for me to cash them in.

I've seen that same failure on KTM 500 pistons, two now. I always suspected a lean condition/detonation from open aftermarket exhaust without any fuel map changes.
@Project_789TАй бұрын
Thanks for the info, agree definitely looks like that sort of damage but we do have pretty good quality fuel here in the UK (95+) so I don't think that was the problem. Running richer with the PCV maps also on a Akra (w/baffle) slip on and the cat. Some have said possible small coolant leak from the head gasket may cause a hot spot on the edge of the piston. Or it could have been self inflicted with my right wrist....

Hi, good for you for making this video, I have 21 plate 890 duke r, 9000 mile and cams ok. Just a note on the knock sensor, the 890 runs a higher compression than the 790 so ktm obviously felt the need to listen for detonation, your ignition map for 790 will be different from the 890. You might be ok if you run it on 99 fuel. The extra terminal on the map sensor is because I think it reads vacuum in both throttle bodies. Good luck

That’s owners manual is huge! Haha I know it’s just the perspective. Now that the funny part is over I have to be serious. GET RID OF THAT BIKE. The 890 engines are overheating prematurely for no explicable reason. I’ve seen it on 2 in person with my own eyes. 1 had 7k miles the other 13k miles. Both warped heads, one dropped a valve and smacked the piston.

I guess due also to the 13:1 compression ratio along with that restriction from the catalytic converter on there would build a lot of back pressure to the piston chambers over time could contribute to that piston failure, and I think a de-cat would be going in the right direction to relieve some of that high heat back pressure for a cooler running engine.

Does the Arrow de-cat pipe keep it not as loud as some of the other aftermarket strait through de-cat pipes? The reason I asked this is because I have a TracTive rear shock like yours and don't want to bake the seals out of it from that super hot catalyst on a hot summer day. Awesome videos and keep us posted.
@Project_789TАй бұрын
The arrow pipe is a lot mellower than a straight through. At cruise at circa 70/80 mph its a lot better than the straight through. As for temps…ive done around 20k miles on the shock with zero problems from the heat from the cat.

The torque and HP figures are in a different rpm range than a 790 so you will have to re-flash or recalibrate the quick shifter to run with the different power band pattern curve or get a 890 ECU module, and I would definitely change out the oil and oil filters and oil screens asap.
