Awesome series. I have been making my way through the playlist over the last few weeks.

This was a LOT of fun to watch! Victory teetered between both sides... but in the end, Lieutenant Fromage and his Parisian rabble won... while Petite d'Noble and his armed peasants slunk off back into the night! No doubt, the Sons Of The Revolution, will slaughter one of the cows... and eat well tonight. After all, they can always blame those Knaves, Louts, and Tillers Of Soil!!!!!

I agree! Alternating activations makes for a much more engaging game. One of the things I hate about GW games is that I can walk away from the table while my opponent runs his turn and he still might not be done when I get back. But I'd rather stand over the table and watch to what he is doing in real time while I'm trying to figure out my next step.

You are able to correct and rewind parts if it gets bits wrong. If you have your war rosters in a separate document, cut and paste onto chat, should speed things up.

@michamalinowski80152 күн бұрын
8:20 I don't think that's correct. There is nothing in the rules preventing you from shooting a unit that moved into contact. That is why the author says you should not charge cavalry into infantry that is not disrupted, because they will not be able to shoot you on contact and get a huge bonus for shooting cavalry. Otherwise charging heavy cavalry head on into infantry would be a winning move because of the melee bonus. Thats an elegant way to simulate stuff with fewer rules rather than more.

I'm late to comment on this video, but I am now just getting into Chainmail. Something I discovered is that part of the vagueness of ths document is that it has the Tony Bath rules for Peltast and Pila in the background. If you check thoserules for how they handle formation and all that, it clicks with what the folks publishing chainmail were doing.

Really like the ideas in Drums and Shakos. I was fantasizing about running this game as a convention multiplayer game with each team having one player playing the line linfantry, second player running the light infantry, this playing the cavalry and two moderators playing as artillery teams.

Man this hits hard. The philosophy about how things like Christmas being imbued into the game world is so simple but man you're right. The analogy about watching a Christmas show during the season vs any random other month. It's really good stuff man. I can't emphasize enough how helpful all of this is beyond the pure entertainment value of what I'm getting here. Im going to give some back as soon as I'm able. Thank you, you and people like you make this world a better place.

I'm surprised how such a simple form a mechanical point of view game gives something that even complex napoleonic games lack- arriving of reserves on the battlefield from every direction- most napoleonic rulesets I've seen each player advencecd foreward, which is OK if you are playing a brigade level games, but then you go for corps or army level games all hell should be let loose and the attacker units should be pouring left, right and center, like at Leipzig or Borodino. Also I like how consequential is the commitment of troops. Absolute Emperor had the whole Elan system to make generals not change orders to often. Here you just pinn guys when they shoot or get shot. That makes reserves even more important, because if you commit everything you have on the main push, the troops will not be albe to react when the enemy brings some reienforcements on the flank. Love the idea. I will need to buy some 3mm minis and try using this for historical battles. The only thing that may be a con for me is that the ruls feel a bit undercooked. Some things should be elaborated on more like interpenetration, some rules that are hinted on but never stated as written (like being able to shoot a charging enemy), I also feel it could use some more units like irregular cavalry, the distinction between heavy corps foot artillery, and lower caliber foot artillery companies on the division level. But those are things that I think should be easy to house-rule into the game.

I have question regarding this rule: "47. A unit may shoot only ONCE during its turn. This means if a unit is charged by two attackers only one can be shot at. However, if both charging units are touching or closing to contact from the same aspect, they are considered 1 unit for target purposes.". In the rules movement has a longer distance than shooting, and shooting takes place after movement. But this paragraph suggests that you could shoot a unit charging you but there is no elebaration further on this. Anybody know how this should be interpreted?
@michamalinowski80158 күн бұрын
I think I figured it out. I have brain tainted by other rulesets. Nothing in the rules prohibits you from shooting when you are in base to base contact. So even if an enemy chages and contacts you, the melee will take place after you shoot.
