I made a mistake in the trivia section. Sean Young was cast as Vicki Vale in Batman 89 and had to drop out due to a horse-riding accident, Annette Benning dropped out due to being pregnant.

What would Ned's gf do? Turn into a "I spit in your grave" type of BS? It's based on a true story, she was graped by a drug lord who pays the police and quite literally owns the Cidade de Deus. Real victims just go far away and try to start again, they really just want to "disappear" and leave the past behind. Stop with the stupidity, wanting women representation in a gang violence movie based on a true story from the 70s is TOO dumb, even for first worlders who know nothing about real life

You're probably right. The budget for the voices of A-list actors probably didn't help either. Maybe it's wishful thinking of this being successful on VOD and Blu-ray/DVD that they will make a sequel. The release between Beetlejuice 2 and The Wild Robot and that terrible first trailer also didn't help matters. Although, I'm kinda intrigued by the GI Joe/Transformers crossover movie....

I just watched this episode and it was another great one. I am really enjoying seeing Colin Farrell in this role and when he lit them on fire, I was stunned and watching his face was a master class in acting. This show is killing it, literally, and I love it. I am hoping to see more of it but I have read that Farrell is not on board because the suit is so heavy. We will see.
@AtomicCultMediaАй бұрын
The show's ratings seem to be continuously rising so I'm sure they'll throw the bag at Farrell to get back in that fat suit, lol. But this is still classified as a "miniseries" which insinuates it's a one-and-done... but that doesn't mean much. I'm way more interested in the other spin-off shows in this universe if they keep up the quality. Hoping Dune: Prophecy is good as well.

For me it's a great film because it isn't just body horror. The acting and script mean it's a powerful drama. I'm still puzzled why the herd mentality on KZbin insists on The Thing being superior. In general some seem to obsess over certain films and ignore others, the same with the hype over Rear Window. Though I definitely find Rear Window way better than The Thing Hitchcock did great things people ignore.
@AtomicCultMediaАй бұрын
I definitely love The Thing but I can't compare it to The Fly other than some body-horror aspects and them being both great remakes from the 80's. The Thing is a masterclass in suspense and paranoia with a bit of the Lovecraftian "fear of the unknown." The Fly is a definitely a drama that delves deeper into the body-horror aspect. It's both disgusting and tragic.

It didn't portray Joker like people expect him to be, a super diabolical, crafty villain. Arthur Fleck isn't that, and people just can't seem to be able to separate the Joker Arthur inspires and Fleck. This is one of those movies that will be loved in time.

I agree to an extent. Although it’s flawed, I feel it will be appreciated more later on. Going in I was actually worried they would make him the “diabolical, crafty villain.” That would’ve betrayed everything the original film built up.

I don’t think anyone can REALLY say how they feel about this movie (from a ‘Salems Lot perspective) if they have never read the book..They can only review it for what it is..A generic vampire movie.. I am not saying that you guys are doing that on your channel, but I have seen ALOT of KZbinrs reviewing it like they know so much about the lore, then they turn around and say that they haven’t ever read the book (or even watched the ‘79 miniseries for that matter), and then I just start laughing..Like they just want to sound cool or something by acting like they know so much about the real story, then go on to say they haven’t ever read the novel..UGH! I don’t know why that irritates me so much, haha..
@AtomicCultMedia2 ай бұрын
Would that be Stephen King lore or vampire lore in general? I think most vampire lore is pretty well known even if they're not familiar with Salem's Lot. I could definitely tell with the amount of characters and lack of time dedicated to them a lot of stuff was cut. So, you're right, I'm just seeing the movie at face value without additional context. I did look up some comments from book readers saying the Father Callahan was butchered and that he actually shows up in The Dark Tower series. If anything, this has be interested in checking out the book and miniseries eventually.

It was so bad, it felt like Goosebumps. That killer kid made the vampires so non-threatening. This 11 year old sees his dead friend fly up, mind control him and try to attack him and he doesn't even flinch, he's like "Tell your master I'm coming for his head!". When they had this 11 year old get into a car he shouldn't know how to drive, he could barely see over the steering wheel but he somehow Tokyo Drifts through the support beams, I was cackling. @kurtbarlow94022 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said. However, I feel that if the film were released today, it'd be trashed for the omissions and character changes (Barlow) What makes the film special is the original broadcast strategy. Carrie had been a massive hit, so people were excited for a SK film they didn't have to pay to see. Then there was the fact that the two parts were shown on consecutive Saturdays. It seemed strange until you got to the cliffhanger at the end of part 1. Danny Glick sits up to bite Mike, it freezes and zooms in on Danny's glowing eyes. The screen fades to black and "to be continued" appears. Plus it was back in the day when you either watched it or missed it. Not constantly rerunning on cable, no streaming , VCRs, DVD.

@@AtomicCultMedia As someone who loves the book--the biggest problem this film encounters is the 2 hour canvas it was given. That is just not enough time to cover the story. My understanding is that it was shot to be three hours instead of two. As with most of these kinds of calls, the decision to shorten it was made by suits at WB for reasons that make no sense whatsoever. For the most part, even the two hour version is as faithful to the source material as it could be. So I'm not is upset with it as some other folks. Salem's Lot could have been an entire 6-8 hour single season show because there was so much happening in the book.

How can a sex-ploitaion film effectively do battle with…sex-ploitation? How can actresses who radically conform to beauty standards (via plastic surgery) be integral exemplars for young women? Why would any integral actress participate in, and promote, a sex-ploitation/Roman Colloseum flick? Will this movie stop women of all ages, from the natural desire, of wanting to appear beautiful in public? Will a sexy girl running around in her underwear make viewers think differently about sexual assault? The trailer for ‘The Substance’ promises titillation galore for teenage boys and dirty old men, under the guise of ‘social critique’. How far is this tactic from the films produced by the American Social Hygiene Association, at the beginning of the 20th century? The males will leave this film with ‘flesh on the mind’ and the females with ‘cosmetics on the mind’. Which ideology or cause, could justify prostituting images of a woman’s nubile contours, to over a billion viewers? Successful actresses build their career on character, rather than contours (i.e. Angela Lansbury). Filmmakers who genuinely love women, provide opportunities for their feminine strength of character to shine. Misogynistic filmmakers expose bodily contours and then proceed to tear them apart for the viewer’s perverse delight. My favourite Demi Moore film is ‘One Crazy Summer’. I would like to see more films like ‘Howard’s End’ or ‘Trust’ where the women are given something edifying to do… While the filmmakers are patting themselves on the back, for simply reinforcing ‘the male gaze’, here are some valid criticisms: “But for all its feminist diatribes, The Substance is still a movie that is 80 percent extreme close-ups of Margaret Qualley’s arse. In nearly every other scene, the camera lovingly pans over her spandex-clad exterior, in sequences that are shot like ‘90s Viagra commercials” (Inverse.com). "The Substance’s presentation is as shallow as the very thing it’s critiquing. There’s no compassion, and certainly no catharsis - just more hagsploitation and a sense of déjà vu." (Hannah Strong) "An overuse of stale horror conventions in an already predictable plot-combined with decades-old, thoroughly unchallenging ideas about women’s relationships to their bodies-leads to a film that claims to support its protagonist, while treating her like the butt of the joke at every turn...I will not deny that Margaret Qualley is great to look at, but Fargeat undermines her film’s satirical point by catering to the same male gaze that the script claims to despise so deeply. Fargeat isn’t quite sure what she wants to say about women’s relationships to their body and images of their body, so she falls back on simply showing us that Margaret Qualley is hot.” (Paste Magazine) 'After two hours and 20 minutes of flamboyantly repulsive variations on this well-worn theme, even the strongest-stomached and most feminist of viewers could be excused for muttering, We get it already." (Slate Magazine)
