Hey Ray. As a beginner in martial arts, which of your videos should I watch until your book comes out. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to practice with. And my schedule doesn't permit going to a gym for classes. I think I should begin with this training as a core of my martial practice. I understand the concept of angles well in regard to weightlifting.

Hi RAY, my daily practice consists of warm up of all muscles frpm neck to the toes, theni do bafa wubu 8 energies five stances then ba duan jin 8 pieces of silk then long forrm 108. i have 20 great chinese music programs to do these to so it really gives me that smoothness and roundness feeling. I always read thru the sections of the form so i don't having blank spots to get stuck in. I enjoyed you willow explanations of line of force, centerline, and balance. Ross

I'm not sure what you mean by center of gravity. The physical center of gravity is located at the lowest tan tien or 2.5 to 3 thumb sizes below the navel

Both are right. Depends on posture held. Phase 1 (standing tall, arms outstretched) has the centre of mass at the root chakra Pase 2 (X pose) has the centre of mass at the height of the sacral chakra Phase 3 (tip-toes, arms extended upwards) has the centre of mass at the height of the solar plexus Most often in martial arts the actual center of mass is actually outside the body, slightly ahead of the naver and somewhat lower.

I know you are trying to help people, but you got to help yourself first and you don't understand yet why you cannot talk and actually do at the same time, so let me help you. If you are going to demo the move, just do it, don't talk about it, don't think about it at all, or you won't be doing it. You have to shut down the linguistic centers of your mind and expand your consciousness to cover your whole body, uniting it into a kinesiological unity. You can't do that and talk, you can't even think in words and do it --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/j162p3SPjaiMbbMsi=rtpgjBF8RzHqmogo

I always loved Leonard's book on Mastery simply because he put the emphasis on the journey and not the destination. You are so right in that there is no end in the pursuit of excellence. Gladwell's 10,000 hours to achieve mastery of any endeavor is a pretty good rule of thumb in gaining mastery. Perhaps mastery is just a train stop on your journey. Even after reaching mastery, there's always an opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills, staying curious and open to new possibilities. What slays me is some 30 year old claiming Grand Mastery. You ain't fooling anyone but yourself.

Sound advice, indeed, the only other secret worth having is to practise with as many skilled training partners as you can find to compliment your solo practise. There are many aspects to swordplay that can only be learned through two-person training. IMO

I agree. Many aspects of two person training is covered in my upcoming pushing hands book.

@@rayhaywardtheinspiredteach8246 Good luck with that in terms of sales. My three books on Yang-style have been out-of-print for many years. I'm so old I remember when it was easy to find a book store; now [in Canada anyway] not-so-much.
