I have enough farmall to have my own small show. of coarse old letter series) lol but never had a F-20. So I bought the only one that was listed in my area for the last 2 years . I mean the only cheap, cheap one. So I bought some yard art, you might say. It also is a 1935. With no rear tires or tubes and 1/2 rusted off wheels mag missing cyl. head had the spark plugs out and the big L linkage for the governor was cracked, tool box gone, and drive shat cover gone, no seat. linkages that run up on top the hood damaged .Carb missing ,you get the idea ( yard art) But ever sense I had it . I have learned a ton about it , proves it's hard to get to know how there built, if you don't own one. And for some reason the clutch cast housing is cracked. and no belt pulley even the part that runs it.

Great video. In the late 60s my neighbor had a doodle bug made from an old Buick, double transmissions and big truck differential. The bench seat had a large piece of concrete as a base. Extra ballast for traction. He pulled disc and drag for fitting ground with it. He also snaked logs with it. I hope you show footage of some doodlebugs at work.

Hi, Folks. Good video and thanks for posting it. I started my 58 year operating career on machines of that vintage. How-wevver, that it NOT a late 1940s machine. It is 1950 - '53. The giveaways - the later model hard nose around the radiator and the two-stick transmission - both of these changes came in 1950 Prior to that date, the gear shift was what is commonly called the 'slide bar' system. the gear shift had a 'gate' with a slot for each gear and you had to SLIDE the gear lever sideways to match up wht the gate slot for the gear that you wanted. UNmistakable. Thanks again. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I respect my elders and completely trust an elderly that has lived and worked on these machines their entire life. There are those who think they know it all but never sat on this machine and will disrepect these old timers to make themselves appear to be good mechanics, but you can't take away experience like these old timers have. The time, the experience and the wisdom is priceless. Thank you gentlemen for sharing these videos.

Due to the "back fire", is the reason why many went to the vertical exhaust. My grandfather had a vertical exhaust put on. Even with the 3 foot length exhaust, the back fire still would come out of the top with a one foot long tail.

Wonderful! I remember watching in awe as a small child while my father and grandfather supervised the threshing of Luscern/Alfalfa seed using one of these. This wasnt so long ago early 2000's (although this is in South Africa, Oudtshoorn) and was before combine harvesters became more commonplace. Its always sad to see these awesome machines slowly lose their use. I have fond memories. Thank you for sharing!

NEVER!!! Open the throttle UNTILL you want it to start. He opened it before he put it on compression, the diesel didn't even have time to build up heat, that is the key to starting properly. Having the the throttle open puts fuel in the cylinders and washes the liners, cold fuel does not ignite until enough heat is made in the combustion area.

doodle bugs weren't only made in the 1930s but also much earlier then that and also made in Europe as well just the difference car repairshops or black smithshops made them. There was a Canadian company also that made kits to make a doodle bug, and Sears and Wards had kits like that in their Catalogs as well

Very nice. I have a 8 hp olds seager type a. My grandpa ran it years ago for show. This motor has sat for @ 30 years . The piston was rusted tight and 8 finally broke it loose and just tonight I have totally tore the motor apart piece by piece. Needs a few a lot of tlc. Has several broken bolts that I will have to tap out. I think the piston and rigs are going to make it. Anyhow you have a nice collection and you seem very knowledgeable on your motors. Thanks mike

As a teenager I worked as an apprentice mechanic for a company that about 20 of those running and maybe the same in spare parts I can remember in off season this was a citrus company we could go to the huge inventory of old parts from transmission and differential house to engine blocks we would built entire tractors reconditioned heads new pistons liners and bearings we create a working tractor to replace anyone that came in for repairs sometimes we had 4 or 5 of them sitting in yard at the ready I even remember some the part numbers were almost always started with the letters dkn even after 40yrs
