How we can overcome the depression that comes through being unemployed for a long time ?
@patlas174 күн бұрын
One way of looking at this could be that once you change negative thoughts for more positive then you will feel emotionally better. As a result, you might take more helpful actions, and decisions in your life. However, this might be the solution for some but not for everyone. Additionally, changing thoughts is a process and cannot be achieved overnight, especially if you struggle with depression. For some people, it is helpful to engage in activities such as voluntary work and sports or hobbies. With depression initially, when you start any behavioural interventions you might not feel any joy; the more you practice you will start seeing results. Sorry, this is a very fragmented answer. What works for individuals varies therefore it is difficult to answer this concisely.

Thank you so much for spreading great information about PTSD and domestic violence. I suffer from PTSD with panic disorder agoraphobia and ADHD. It's hard to get the meds I need because unfortunately people abuse them. It's sad that I cant get the right help. So I just suffer on antidepressants, which dont change anything lol

@patlas173 ай бұрын
Yes, it is. the work requires an experienced therapist and a lot of commitment from the person. In some cases, we work a lot with the sense of responsibility that is driving the OCD behaviour. Sometimes that sense of responsibility can be overlooked in the treatment of OCD.

I am sorry this is your experience at the moment. As you said, it is possible to have PTSD symptoms comorbid with OCD compulsions without intrusive suicidal thoughts. A lack of suicidal thoughts could suggest that perhaps you have hope for the future and that is something you can hold on to and build on it.

As a physician I get this type of questions often . The diagnosis of epilepsy means you have an history of seizure whether it is controlled or not depends on several factors such as if it needs medications or not and how often a person has it for some they might not have a seizures ever again and for some they might have seizures every few weeks . For others it might show up even after many years of being seizure free .

Impressive insights! Recognizing emotions is vital. How do you think incorporating distress scales and narrative writing can further aid in managing PTSD? 🤔
@patlas175 ай бұрын
Thank you for your interest. I think distress scales can be helpful during the treatment, they can bring attention to emotions and help to monitor the progress. Narrative writing can be helpful for some people as part of the restructuring treatment for PTSD; however, this might not work for everyone.

I really enjoyed this reaction video of yours, Dr. Pat Las, commenting on this OCD-based romcom starred by Jung Jae-young (as Jung Seok). I think I've seen this movie like three times already for the great acting and the 'convincing' handling of an OCD character. To be honest, this is the first time I have watched a reaction commentary from a professional psychologist regarding this film and really liked it. You also made me smile by your comment about the scene of Jung-Seok peeing in his pants and falling unconscious. Perhaps, because this is just a fictional film, the scene was indeed a little bit exaggerated. I would love it if one of these days you could also comment on another Jung Jae-young film, entitled "Going by the Book", which plays a character whose moral behavior is very rigid, so black and white. Thank you for the pleasant video.

If you are experiencing flashbacks, nightmares or dissociations you can always use grounding techniques to prevent emotional over-activation. However, these grounding techniques are not a temporary solution. At the moment the most popular methods to deal with PTSD symptoms are reliving or imaginary rescripting and they can be done with the help of a professional. I have a few videos where I talk in detail about imaginary rescripting and reliving if you would like to know more about this. Additionally, there is hope that shortly, we can help people with MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. I hope this answers your question.

So you say there is no cure for this
@patlas177 ай бұрын
Hi, One of the things that can help with symptoms of PTSD is therapy. For some people, the therapy can be the 'cure' for others therapy can only reduce their symptoms. It really depends on the presenting problem. You could say that while a person is in the therapy we work on shifting the memory into the right place, so that the trauma memories cannot be trigered but only intently recoled as 'normal' memories.
