Я благодарна Дудамелю и оркестру за бесподобное исполнение! Теперь Шостакович стал мне ближе....

To have lived then! When conductors were household names. When performances were packed out. When there was an educated cultured audience. When the arts were supported and funded by government. I'm lucky enough to have caught the tail end of this and unfortunate enough to witness the current state of classical music in the UK. Those times will never be again i fear

Anyone still listening to this in 2025? I remember hearing this banger for the first time in 1886

If Solti's and Tennstedt's Mahler 8 recordings for the "Alles Vergängliche" were to be mixed into one, it would be the most amazing recording ever.

I've been a classical music lover since I was 16. I'm now 56 and in my humble opinion, these are all superb. We can easily add another 100 pieces. That's the wonder of this genre. Great list.

We really got Johnny from the Shining to conduct a whole ass clasical piece

I would Langgaard's Symphony #1. a teen composition that compares to Bruckner and Mahler. Pick one with slower tempi in the massive conclusion

I second the outrage of putting commercials in the middle and near the end of this masterpiece. This is one of few compositions that absolutely keeps your attention with emotion to the end. Tchaikovsky does it again!
