It is endlessly fascinating watching this piece being played as much as listening to it.

Mr. Bavouzet is simply an extraordinary musician, this is a most eloquent and convincing rendering.

That's why Ravel is among the most influential composers ever - at least in my humble opinion! :)

The pianist sounds a bit tense at the beginning but soon gets into the transe that suits this music so well. The orchestra is just sublime and Ravel's orchestration masterpiece is revealed in this interpretation. Although I have Samson François's legendary interpretation in mind, this one is clearly worth listening to. Thank you to to musicians and thank you to the person who posted this recording.... :o)

I can only imagine how it must be to play this opening as the soloist. The tension building by the orchestral intro, followed by multiple minutes of solo piano where you HAVE to deliver. You sit down and without any easing into it, you have to play this incredible piece of music, completely exposed in the middle of the stage, all eyes on you. Let's say that this is not something I envy in soloists hehe

one of the best interpretations of this great work l wish in the tutti climax of the fast central section, conductors would allow both competing themes to be given equal weight so often the second of the two themes is drowned out by the first

I think Ravel really wanted to lift off the top of your head. One of the truly Kantian 'sublime' works and still shocking This most liquid of composers, Ravel also found one of the greatest lyric passages of like foreverl

yes, Ravel was fascinated by the kind of jazz emerging during the 20s and this shews particularly both here and in the bolero

Had he not been cut down so early by his brain condition and the unsuccessful attempt at surgery to correct it, there would have been much more jazz and delicious experimentation in his legacy. That legacy stands proud as it is, of course

Exactly. These kinds of cadenza can be found in the Bolero, but not in the "concerto en sol", the false twin. (The Bolero and the 2 contertos are the last great Ravel's works)

Great concerto, Salonen however, is at times a bit languid compared to Kertesz on the Decca/London recording (1968) but a conductor who can match his talent is a rare find indeed.

ラフマニノフの協奏曲みたいなロマンティックな、低音が暗黒から響くようなピアノ。ラヴェルは自分ではピアノパートを弾けなかったらしい。研究成果なのだろう。

The piano playing is too tense and stabby, plus too much self-conscious rubato ( save it for your Chopin playing)- none of which suits Ravel's music. There are better performances on youtube.
