I camp in the White Mountains in the U.S. and I often wonder if something siimilar that had a diorienting strobe light effect would he effective in scaring bears off at night. We only have black bears and ideally once they are scared off the first time they stop coming around. Not sure if it would work, and as of yet I have not found a motion-detecting strobe light option.

What’s that floor mat you have down over your site? I often think having a clean shoes off rug or something would make the living area of the campsite cleaner and more more comfortable.
@mitchroberts2620Ай бұрын
you should think about putting a foil underneath and then it would ride smooth, look at foiling boards or videos

That block would hold much better without the bag. The snap hooks should be locking or doubled if overnight- redundancy is key. I do similar with a 42’ sailboat and a 17” runabout often in 20’ tides. This is the vey basics. Anchor first, back in to shore, unload, pull out with the system. Good vid though

Jet skiis are not nearly as loud as two outboards on a boat, in fact about half as loud in dB levels. A single 200hp motor is about 80-100 dB, two are 160-200 dB where as a modern 4 stroke jet ski is only about 85 dB. Modern 4 stroke jet skiis are quieter, safer, more efficient ( burn 1/5 as much fuel as a 25 foot boat ), and generally more environmentally friendly than a large boat, unless of course the driver chooses to use the ski (boat) irresponsibly.

Something really changed in last 10 years. Up to 30's i was using 3mm foiled foam mat.... And it was fine... After 30ties i got 1 cm ex military closed cell mat with exelent r value and weight aroud 900g.... It its great even now , it feels comfortable, the only point where it sucks is after unrolling it still keeps cylinder form:/. After I bought a motorcycle i got a few self inflatable sleeping matts at 2.5cm (1inch) height... They are not light but keep me from the ground pretty well. Even sleeping on these in freezing temps was ok too.... And they gave worse r value than that military matt. Last year for summer camping i bought 9mm-1cm folding closed cell foiled, perforated matt similar to thermarest z lite.... And for my understanding when you backpacking you take closed cell matt, its not heavy, never needs inflation, folding ones folds neatly. And where you need small volume you take self inflating ones. Those 3+inches i call them beds... Where i see the problem is that the material on them is kinda thin. Please someone explain the purpose of 2.5+ inches matts?

Stove Bright is a good paint too. It's what is used on wood/combustion heaters. Plus it allows you to periodically touch up small areas as it blends so well. Great idea with the vinegar though.

There's a version of this that even omits loud alarm sounds. If you can't sleep because you keep thinking people or something will get near your tent while you sleep, I think that's the one you should get.
