First Eritrean, first black African (JB2 show mentioned an Algerian in the 1950’s, plus Froome and a South African) first black person ever to win a Tour De France Stage.

As we saw on stage 2, Jonas is a great puncheur also on shorter steep climbs. He just usually doesn't bother with those races. I hope he starts caring later. Probably if he wins TdF a couple more times he will start caring about these more. Would be very interesting. He could beat most there. Pogacar will be the main problem still.

Cheating has a long tradition at the grand tours, riders even hid behind bushes during the race so they could wear the black shirt that belonged to the last rider in the peloton, not to mention doping and other crap. Only the naive think that cheating is no longer possible today, in some way cheating enforce competition and progress, but it's killing the spirit of the sports. What Visma can do with its van, if it is equipped with AI technology, is to collect and analyze data from the race broadcast and from other sources directly from the race field. If in addition, they include historical data in the analysis, it is practically possible to instantly predict the course of the race with a very high probability, over 90%, with AI models. No sports director has the capacity and efficiency to compete with AI models that use quality data sets for processing, so it is logical that teams will prioritize AI in terms of tactical directions. No sports director will object to the AI if he wants to keep his seat in the escort car! Regardless of the complexity of the data analysis process, the results in the form of guidance for the cyclist can be very simple. So that the transmission of the tactical conclusions that the AI model will reach in a second when changes occur in the race, from the "AI van-center" to the sports director and from the spot director to the rider, can take place in a few sentences. The cyclist does not need much guidance, just like in a car, the sports director increases and decreases the speed by pressing the pedal, he can also tell the rider to attack, wait... or use codes a,b,c...or smoke signals on mountaintops With AI the game is over and the big wave of AI is coming so fast that when it hits us the only thing left to do will be to unplug from the power grid to not watch the massacre. It doesn't matter where AI it's located, whether in a van or in the Netherlands, as long as you have access to the source of information (with the advancement of technology, teams will no longer need a van). It is impossible to completely limit the transfer of data to the rider and to the sports director from the AI centers, so the key in the future will be to completely cut off radio communication with the rider in direction from the sports director to the rider. Paradoxically, the race for those of us who follow the race through the TV screens would become more interesting with the use of AI technology with more data at disposal, but the cyclists would be managed by AI like racing horses without any autonomy, and we would have fun watching.

Very happy for Bini, which is bound to be a huge motivation for many more Eritrean - and African - cyclists to take pro cycling. Also sorry to see Cav caught behind the crash and missing out on the sprint. Hope he can survive the Galibier and be ready for the next few sprint stages.

The first race was staged in 1946. It was promoted by the Italian community of Eritrea with the Italian name Primo Giro dell'Eritrea.[1] Its inaugural Tour of Eritrea had 34 participants and was won by Nunzio Barrilà of the team A.C. Italy maintained some influence over Eritrean politics after 1948. Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, used to be known as "Little Rome", was one of the most famous destinations for both native Eritreans and Italian colonialists. The city still retains a lot of Italian architecture.
