Eddie suggests, "You'll be better prepared for the Tour de France after doing the Giro because of the mountain stage and the weight lost." Meanwhile, Johan believes you should skip the Giro to better prepare for the Tour and only focus on that. Whose advice do we follow? The Cannibal or the great sports director? Chime in, people!

I met Eddy at the World Cycling Centre back in 2004 when I was a Stagiaire there. He was super friendly and stopped to exchange a few words and shook my hand. Wished I had a smart phone back then to take a wefie. In 2001/2002 I was training and living in San Diego and had a chance to ride a few times with Axel as we had mutual friends. Super down to earth like his dad. Met Lance when I was a Jr racing the Lance Armstrong Jr race series back in 1998. He was nice enough to take a photo with us. Met Cipollini back in 2012 at Interbike after party. He hit on my now ex wife. And I was in awe. lol

It's wonderful to see a 78-year-old champion with a clear mind who still shows passion for cycling, chapeau 🇧🇪. In today's cycling, more and more attention is focused on the safety of cyclists, it would be interesting to hear his opinion on how safe cycling was in his time compared to today and how he imagines the future of cycling if the trend of increasing exposure to the dangers that cyclists face, continued. I don't just mean high speeds and obviously incomplete braking systems, which should provide better braking control and consequently greater safety for cyclists, or poorly protected sections of the route, but also increasing exposure to weather extremes. We've seen cyclists freeze to extremes on the bike, and we've seen cyclists burn out on the bike due to extreme heat. This trend will only intensify, we can expect the record high temperatures at TDF this year. How responsible is it to organize races in such extreme conditions, and wouldn't it be time to move the calendars of important races to the temperature of a more suitable periods? You don't race in winter for a reason, nor should you race in the middle of the summer, because it leaves long-term health consequences on cyclists whose metabolism is constantly subjected to maximum efforts. According to you, an institution would be necessary to provide a greater shield to cyclists against the aggressive industry and race organizers? Such an influential person in the world of cycling as you are, should have an opinion on this issue and direct the attention of decision-makers in favor of cyclists, we all lose when a cyclist is injured, if I just limit myself to what brings us all pleasure and not pain.

Eddy used to love to play cards.... Read it in a few books. At the 1991 Tour de France, I rode all the stages ahead of the Race. I met Eddy there & I had a deck of cards, it got his attention, and I said pick a card you identify with & sign it... Guess what- Ace of Clubs Probably a homage to Colnago. Hinault signed the Ace of Spades.... Polidor - all the 2s Anderson Jokers

Isn’t it ironic to hear from the indisputable GOAT that he had and still has great relationships with his former opponents and teammates and Johan stating that he admires this, but couldn’t imagine this to happen in this day and age… 🤔 Ironically I believe to remember that the complete crew of the Move were shocked and amazed by the very friendly relationships between the current stars of the sport… Now I’m confused, since I don’t believe Johan suffers from memory loss, and therefore it would be interesting to know why Johan didn’t feel the need to bring up that this wasn’ t uncommon at all back in the days? Not a single reference to Merckx… Isn’t that ironic, don’t you think……

I am so glad this showed up on my recommended page! Eddy Merckx, cycling legend! Even to this day, some racers (ex: Pogacar, MVDP) are touted as "the new" or "modern day Eddy Merckx," but we all know there is only one, and no one will ever come close to doing what Eddy did during the course of his career. And I did not recognize Johan Bruyneel until he said his name. But then I haven't seen him since the whole Lance Armstrong thing went down. And I used to have a poster of Patrick Sercu and teammate on the track. Can't remember where the heck I got it, nor what happened to it.
