my usb is 3.0 - 32gb.. and only "pkdgb" and the file "config.nfm" inside that. but when i use from glovbox and run i dont see start update screen at all. with same usb i get fsc code btw

@h.burakerol4704 a couple of things.... 1) Cannot be USB3, either USB1 or USB2 ( I doubt you can get USB1 now anyway). 2) You say your E89 came from Japan, so it's JSpec? Or is it an import to Japan then exported to Spain? If it's JSpec, then I'd recommend replacing the headunit completely as the JSpec units are different, and although it's not impossible to completely rewrite the HDD, it's a huge job (it is documented on the internet, as I've read about it before). So replacing the headunit (would need coding and possibly updating so the FSC's can be written to it) and then updating the Maps would be simpler.

For the stalk assemblies, then yes any of the E90, E92, E93, E89, E70 etc ones will work, but unless you are retrofitting Cruise Control then you don't need them for this retrofit of the heated wheel, all you need is the slipring that is 61319169765. This part was available for all models of E81, E82, E84, E87, E88, E89, E90, E91, E92 & E93 from 2006 up to 2016.

@@simongill4675 If you're just swapping the stalk assembly over then the only coding you're probably going to have to do is resetting the steering angle sensor due to removing it for the swap-over. I show how that's done in my Cruise Control video 👍

@BLUESUNNL the BMW splash screen appears depending on the shutdown state of the unit. I've had it come up on short periods as well as longer periods between shutdowns. The thing is, though, because I also have the Mr12volt box fitted, it'll jump to this almost instantly, so i don't often get that opportunity to observe any particular pattern to it. Sorry, I can't say that there is a definitive answer to this for you.

@TerryKitchener firstly, sorry for the late reply, alas no Internet all weekend. The only way, on an E89, not to have the 3 second speed display would be that the coding was done incorrectly in the first part (Kombi). As the CC is working then the coding of $544 to CAS, NFRM and ZDSC has been done OK, so it can only be that the value of TEMPOMAT was not changed from 1 to 2, saved and then SG_CODERIEN'd back to the KOMBI, or at least something definitely went wrong in that part of the process. I suggest revisiting that part of the coding process, you wouldn't have to re-do the $544 coding part again though 👍

@Xdream360 well, and this is purely a guess, your rear brake pad wear indicator has activated! So, new pads and wear sensor are required, and then you should be able to remove the message via the usual method (there are plenty of videos on KZbin for that). But, like I say, that's a guess as I've not come across that message yet.

@jonnymac1505 Well, I'm glad you found the cruise control video helpful 👍 Yes, unfortunately, finding a used heated wheel will be the hard part of this retrofit, but they do cone up from time to time. It's probably taken me around 5 years to get this one, but it was worth the wait. You could always buy new, no idea how much they are though.

How do I know if my steering wheel is heated.? I have a 2013 Msport Z4.

@nickburrows772 if you have the button on the right side of the steering column , as shown in the video, then you have a heated wheel. If not, then you don't 👍

@@BMWZ4Mods Thanks i'll just have to keep an eye out over the long term for a wheel :-) . About £800 for a new heated wheel and i couldn't justify that cost just to have toastie hands during the winter when im driving with the roof down.

@michegansky in the link, there are two drop-down options the first obe is to have the idrive controller included (i.e., for owners without original iDrive), on the first drop-down, you choose "no screen" this tells them you don't have OE iDrive so they include the controller 👍

@Tecnan if the cluster was bought specifically for the F48, then it should come already set up! Other than that, it would be best to contact the supplier and ask them.

In the original set-up video for this I set it to 108mph and left it at OFF and never heard from it again!

@johnhudston3794 1) When you say the steering wheel hands free button is inoperative, I'm assuming you mean for CarPlay? 2) So if you swap from Mr12volt to the cars radio, presumably using the controller button on the centre console, what do you get on the screen? 3) Delete the Bluetooth and WiFi connections for Mr12volt on the Mr12volt box and your phone, then try to connect to the cars Bluetooth. 4) This depends on which box it is, Black box, Blue box or Grey box. The black box was for an aftermarket mic, as per my video although I did make up a Y loom to use the OEM mic. They have changed this with the Blue and Grey boxes to have an OEM option. You may want to check whether you box requires an update, as this may help.

Glad you like the video. My preference for the Mr12volt over the other MMI's is for a few reasons. Digital connectivity, ie; the fact that it is the only box that sends a digital signal out via the fibre optic MOST network. All of the other boxes use the AUX analogue socket, and this suffers from poorer audio quality and the potential of degraded connection due to Verdigris on the socket connectors. General quality and service level, although my own original Aliexpress MMI box was perfectly fine, I've had bad reports back, even about the seller I bought mine from (hence why I removed my link from my other video), for failing boxes and bad aftersales service (primarily due to the sellers just being Drop-Shippers and not proper suppliers). But this has then a knock-on effect to the customer. I've found the quality of the Mr12volt boxes and the level of service to be very good indeed. Integration, The general feel, look and all round experience is far superior with the Mr12volt box. The on-screen integration just looks like it's supposed to be there. Now to be fair I do own an older box (2 generations back), but since installing mine there have been improvements and upgrades with the newer boxes. I've installed quite a few of these into other owners Z4's now and have found the newer boxes to be just as good etc. I hope that answers your question? Dave

Having ordered an andriod screen (for a different car) through AliExpress and experienced first hand the lack of quality and support from the resellers, I was very hesitant in reordering through that channel. Also, couldn't find one where you do not have to use the physical aux input so this speaks a lot for Mr12Volt. Hopefully will arrive in time for me to install this weekend. Thank you!

Hi Dave, have installed and works really well, I fitted this into the slot behind the climate control panel and thought everything was well. Now have issues with the climate control in that the top vents don't blow air and the bottom vents blow hot air regardless of temp setting. I will disassemble and check the hvac connections but just wondering if you have encountered this before. Lots of error codes pulled out from bimmerlink. Thanks. Col

@colsaffer yes this has come up before. It's normally sorted by just re-seating the two plugs at the rear of the air-con controls panel. Just make sure that the two looms for them are free enough not to pull on the plugs 👍

@FPVAustralia glad you liked the video 👍 Positioning..... so it's entirely down to your preference as to where you locate the box (and the length of the wires!). The options are; on top of the glovebox, behind the air-con controls, above the footwell kick plates. Or as I've just moved mine to, inside the glovebox! This option does mean that you have to drill a suitable hole in the roof of the glovebox for the cables, but mine already has extra holes anyway, so no issue to me. This does allow you the best access for box updates as you won't need to remove any trim. But box updates aren't really all that common or required, I've done two in the entire time I've had mine, and both had no noticeable effect. As for coding, due to the way that the current boxes are now connected, I recommend that any coding is done before you install the box. If you've not currently got CDC as an option then you'll need to code 672 to the cars VO before you start as well (this option can be checked with an online VO checking site). Hope that helps 👍

@PitVital in short, I always recommend reusing your existing slip ring, just unclip it, as shown in the video, and attach it to the new stalk assembly. Part numbers I use for Auto Wipers are... 6989580 9121901 9169072 9110887 These ones all have the 5mph increment on the cruise stalk.

@PitVital I used to use a made for BMW generic USB to OBD cable I got from eBay years ago, but when that failed after quite a few years use I went for an ICOM, I don't recommend buying an ICOM, though, as they are quite expensive!! Go for one of the generic versions, with the switch on and at a reasonable price, i.e., don't go too cheap.

@khristiankowalski at the time of doing the video, I had an Android Touchscreen fitted. This was connected to a standard radio headunit (it can be fitted in place of the flip up screen of the iDrive system). Since then, I have removed that and retrofitted the full iDrive system and connected an mmi box. The mmi box gives the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (depending on your phone type). All of these are on my other videos on this channel.

Very similar, with the new version, instead of connecting to the iDrive controller, you have a Y cable that plugs into the rear of the headunit. This saves you the trouble of removing some trim, just though that it's a lot tighter behind the unit due to this new cable.
