Hi Laura, I would like to know if you can tumble soft soldered pieces? Ty😁
@LauraBethLove11 күн бұрын
Hi, why would you?
@GumnutLaneJewellery6 күн бұрын
@@LauraBethLove To strengthen especially if the piece is a more open design and also if you have oxidiised the piece to get into more nooks & crevices to remove more of the patina! I am a wire wrapper but would like to start including some soft soldering into my work, I use a tumbler on all of my work, so I was just curious whether it would be ok to use on soft soldered pieces?😄
@LauraBethLove6 күн бұрын
@@GumnutLaneJewellery I thought maybe you meant for polishing. I don't think it would do anything for strength because it's solder (a lot different from wire)..but you could try!

Do you think I can patina my jump rings for my chain mail too
@LauraBethLove13 күн бұрын
If you're doing many, it would probably be easier to just buy ones that have the finish you'd like. But you could depending on the material, it would have to be able to accept patina, test one out and see how it goes!

Hello, I liked the video but I still have questions, I want to make such spikes on the watch "casio" which have straps from stainless steel, to learn I decided to use a fork from stainless steel, but my work easily falls apart, with a little force all work collapsed. I used an alloy of 96.5% tin 3% silver and 0.5% copper. I also used flux Weller LW25 which is well suited for such tasks. What could be the solution to the problem?
@madsii115 күн бұрын
same here, what works best for me atm is that i use copper foil where ik i want to have details, then i just fill it up with solder, it’s a bit hard, but yeah. def better ways out there, but the ones that make them gatekeep a lot

2024: I had 4 of these Dollar Tree foam pumpkins, left from who knows when, I decided to tackle this year. I took my stems off and stuck 3 of them into the bottom as legs while I worked on the top bot for painting & decoupaging. I was able to work all the way down the sides and a good part of the bottom. Let that dry (each stage) then removed the feet & did the bottom. I made my own stems from air dry clay and made 1 that was a stack of 3 with the middle having a tulle netting wrap and the top & bottom the napkin print. The 4th one I made with the tulle. I've gotten so many compliments! My paper was napkins with a pretty pinks floral design.

this is a beautiful piece you’ve made.

I like the napkins but the pumpkins are not smooth and have a lot of wrinkles. Some people use plastic wrap to go over the napkins once they’re glued on and some use a hot spoon to go over the wrinkles. 👍

hi :) I'm trying to do this with my welding tool but the only think i get get are little balls of tin. is it because I'm not able to use it properly or because its temperature it's not hot enough? I had this tool at home, but it was the cheapest I could get that time (around 13 $) and I don't how hot the tip can get. So basically I melt the wire and also the tin doesn't seem to stick on the tip like it seems to stick on your tip and just fall... I don't know what do to exactly (and also the welding tool emits a bit of smoke, is it normal?)

I love your use of natural elements! I love all things silver...if you had chosen to leave it silver, will it tarnish and need to be maintained and polished over time??
@LauraBethLoveАй бұрын
Thanks! Yes, it would tarnish over time but that can be prevented or slowed down by keeping it out of humidity and keep in a sealed plastic bag when not wearing

This is such a great inventive and creative project! Can I ask - do you think it would be a problem if the wood parts were sealed with an acrylic sealer or painted first ? I see the soldering temperature doesn't burn the wood at all as I guess the copper tape protects it so I assume it would not affect acrylic either?
@LauraBethLoveАй бұрын
Thanks! I would advise against soldering or adding any kind of heat to something that has been painted or sealed with a plastic coating. This has the potential to create harmful fumes. You would be best off doing the soldering first!
