i like invasion style mods. it is ideal if you can configure them to spawn in certain biomes and there are ways to control them from spawning. I have the spore mod and I am aware that the infection can be controlled by one of the machines that uses ice. the sculk infection can be controlled by building a machine. Both allow you to configure where they spawn. I usually have them spawn in caves because usually when they are found it is already a major problem. i like the idea that there is a creeping blight that turn land into wastelands unless you actively fight them.
