Hey Rodger I’m a recent subscriber and I’m wondering what boat you have here? I’m in America but I think this boat would suit my needs greatly!

Nice to see the Breton culture still exists and the Breizh language in some of the shots. Close enough to Cornish for me to understand some. Your boat name in Cornish is virtually the same - whirlwind or gale. Here in Oz (and NZ) there is still a tradition of fish n chip shops (aka greasy spoons) where they still offer brown vinegar with chips, along with weird stuff like aioli or the more Aussie tomato sauce (ketchup).

happy HEALTHY 2025, roger hope you are well. guessing the sailing journeys are off due to other issues. I been greatly enjoying each episode you offer for the last 8 years. I sail only a rental 14 foot sloop. I follow you in all your raids or individual sails on google maps. what a travel guide ! keep up the charming videos. fredz

Right from the moment I clicked on this video I realised I had seen it before, You and your geordy friend, then I realised you nearly fell into the drink so I had to watch it again! Of course if you had have fallen in I would have not have watched it...Haha. Still one of my favourite channels.

What an ineficient boat propulsion. Why dosent the oar blade have a flexable hinge ? Like a fishes tail. God is laughing at stif copy of a tail. A hinge is clearly needed alowing 20 degree Flex.

Thanks Roger. I just purchased my first boat at age 62. A 1967 Cape Dory 10. I'm curious to know what type of rowing you did with the one oar as you maneuvered toward the dock. Thanks!

Good pocket boat, good crew, good coastline. Result: Good handling of the boat (sailing, "living" on the boat, trailering, manageable financial outlay for easy sailing). Pure sailing fun!

What a nice hull that Scamp has ! 'Completely agree about outboard. Electric power does not even compete with burning 1 to 5 litres per year with a simple, light petrol outboard. Electric small outboards do no real favours to the environment, and just add weight and clutter on small boats. Now I remember seeing Mary with her Mirror in KZbin. I just bought back the Mirror my Dad built in 1969, and will completely restore it.

Is this a fiberglass Scamp or a glued lapstrake plywood boat?

hi roger- been enjoying many years of your videos. wrote on this version because of your sensitivity to our global life upset. we had a true life RESTART and AWARENESS. your wisdom helped. I did not loose anyone, but what a shame. I sail, as crew on a 34foot racing cruising class and on a Lido 14 in southern california. started sailing in the 70’s. I understand your approach to your lug boat and how you sail in a natural way or as you say “simple way”. a traveller and boom gets hung up sometimes on the tiller making it troublesome so your way makes sense. during this video you patiently went through your boat with a clear description of what is needed to set out for an SAFE overnight sail. also been enjoying your adventures to the French and British waterway and Venice, Shoreline. I do follow you on Google Maps making it a travel log. haha ! Thanks for your videos. CHEERS to you over a bottle of beer !

Kiwi here again, last video I laid a bet 1000 to 1 it would be the trailer. I"ll send you a quid and look forward to the 1000 in return. Kidding of course but what about a shout out to the people that watch your vids and help out - the foundation of life at sea..

Could you make a sculling oar with a modified blade , instead of a ridgid blade make it flexible . You dont see fish with a tail that is ridgid that would be very inificient ,thats why god designed them flexible . I think a thin flexible blade encased with heavy duty rubber on both side would be much more eficient with a side to side or up and down movement.

Would love to know what caused the Wayfarer capsize, and why sailing past the naval dockyard is so stressful!

Ventile is an amazing fabric. its just a pity that its so eye wateringly expensive.
@jameskemp6439Ай бұрын
Thank you Roger. It was a jammed main sheet which caused by half decker to capsize whilst I was up forward. I was careless as the wind was slight and the plate not fully down after passing over a bar. Suddenly a squall came from nowhere and she was over on her port side where the bailing bucket was hung. I managed to right her by standing an the keel Climbed back in to reach for the bucket and my weight caused her to go over again. Three lessons learnt which I hope may help some one one day Dont ever have plate up when the sail is up. Keep the Bailing bucket in the centre of the boat. Don't leave the main sheet where it can catch and jam.

Nautical charts typify Korzybski's maxim that the Map is not the Territory. The shallows still define an expansive body of water suitable for a sailboat, canoe or kayak
