In NC it's mostly private LL in some counties and they don't even look at the laws. My former employment includes leasing agent and in the office of a housing authority. Here in western NC, postCovid, pre Helene, every redneck with her daddy's house is out to make a buck and are outright posting discriminatory ads (NO KIDS ALLOWED) on social media. It's crazy hard to prove anything, SO rampant. Displacing of families with kids to rent out to retirees and Millennials or Gen Z with invested, inherited wealth. Mostly NY retirees that board their horses at the Tryon equestrian center. Dancing ponies.

Where i live my deposit is low and non-refundable. Its in the paperwork and the landlord went over it with me so I know whatever condition my apartment is left in i won't see my 50 dollars.

There is no color matching anywhere that can't be noticeable, especially after a year's time or more.

“Most landlords don’t require this” Yeah I put a pinhole in my wall I wouldn’t get the whole deposit back. And if they saw all that - not to mention the fake floors etc in some other videos - you’d be seriously told off and told to put it right before another inspection. Most landlords where I am won’t even allow command hooks. You’re still risking damaging property that isn’t yours. You can make a rented place perfectly fine and comfy without literally sticking something across the entire wall and floor.

I know for me, there were damages and they were going to only give me half of my deposit back. However, I still didn't receive anything back after 30 days of me being moved out so I got my whole deposit back. I don't know if this is just a Pennsylvania thing but I figured to comment in case this helps anyone out.

Woah you did so much better than they would have! Btw if someone wants to do this, instead of buying a can of textured paint for that little spot you can dab the paint on using some foam and get the same effect!
