As someone who once Triple Crowned a Fiesta with a Geomancer and a Dancer, yeah they were... I mean, Geomancer activating Bottomless Bog and one-shotting enemies was funny, and Dancer was my primary source of damage against Omega, but I did pull it off at Level 80 alongside a Knight and a Summoner. Also, whether you are doing a fiesta or just playing casually, don't sleep on the Thief's Vigilance Ability. It was how I managed to beat the creature in the basement at Walse Castle. That and a few Berserkers (yes, really).

Vigilance does make getting the Walse Elf Cape actually possible, along with just being a great ability.

They had that same button problem in another game i like called 'Avalon Code' you get points for inspecting areas of the map but soon into the game you get an ability to launch enemies into the air to deal damage and other things. The problem is is that can be done at any time so inorder to check all corners on the map you have to do that tossing animation CONSTANTLY. The game is pretty fun but that clearly gets old REAL fast.

So, i agree. I grew up with FFII and something all the remakes miss is the load menu which has save slots that show all the different partys in their sprite form. Its a small thing, i know, but i do miss it. Plus the sound of the white magic is different. You know, the cubes.

I think the mix quandary is a mix (lol) of both giving so many different effects to let the player do science and figure out all the different effects but also "ok this is the same thing but now im going to make a version of it for each element because I'm not making a unique mechanic for each item combination" from the developer to make this not take 1,000 years. For the philosophy behind it, it's just flavor. I doubt they balanced the game around That One HP Based Water Elemental Mix Combination. It's cool to think about what if the elements did hold a unique property like water also buffing magic damage and wind buffing speed, but again I don't think they were trying to do all that while making the game. These are likely fillers and they knew you'd probably use them until you figured out the OP combinations. For the finisher element, that's purely for flavor I think. They could have fleshed it out by saying it concentrates the power of the unique crystal element each character is, but that's honestly not emphasized really at all in this game. And the GBA jobs are really just "here's some more toys for battles" with really no flavor or world building behind them. I think people would have hated that if the rest of the game was super fleshed out and these weren't, but this is the final fantasy known for a goofy but warm gang who faces some real heavy moments interspersed by anime slapstick all as a facade for a battle sandbox with really interesting mechanics.

I recently learned that the Bell you get in world 1 doesn't trigger the return counter in the Omniscient fight. The damage is terrible but it is still faster than waiting out his MP.

Huh, that's notable. I'm not sure when I'll use that info, but it is good to know.

I played crystal project and I really like it, it does put a lot of focus on exploration, the world is huge and comlpetely connected. I played it through on hard, until I got kinda bored near the ending (maybe postgame) and wanted to finish completing it, (though puting it on normal just let me nuke the final boss). The game is very open world, if you see a road block, you might be able to just platform around it, but that can get you in deep trouble with enemies much stronger than you. (there is an acievement for "teleporting" to a far away land but I just stumbled upon it.) There is also a built in randomizer where you can randomize items, classes, class abilities and moves, enemies, etc, but you can also just choose one like classes. Conitinue reading for a class spoiler, but I personally like the samarui for having high HP and being able to attack multiple times in a turn and then finishing with a powered up move depending on how many attacks you did. in terms of platforming, they added and auto jump, you will jump at the latest oppurtunity automatically if inabled, I never saw the platforming as bad, you have to climb a tower and part of climbing in a platformer is falling. Plenty of safety too, you fall in water, you will teleport to the last place you were standing.

@Suprapika5 күн бұрын
Yes, this playthrough was made before I was fully aware of what bosses were and weren't Heavy. But also I wanted to vary up the strategies a little bit, so 50% of them aren't "just use the Death Scythe".

You should try Cassette Beasts. It is really great and sort of like pokemon. You collect monsters on cassette tapes and then turn into those monsters during combat. If you want a great game that is closer to Pokemon, try Coromon. That is so close to pokemon I am so shocked they haven't been sued.

"So what's your favorite type?" is like something bugkeeper bimmy in this game would ask, and brendan/may wouldn't even dignify it with a response. as usual 'the code getting too big' in pokemon is one of those things that makes sense on paper until one sees just how many rom hacks made with magic there are that manage to backport most if not all of the 1000 new pokemon and unique generational mechanics (mega evolution, gigantamax, z-moves, AND terrestrialization) together into one 32 MB gba rom. unfortunately a lot of them seem to be designed around masochists who are half playing pokemon ai manipulation and other half playing damage calculator. a few of them have tried axing all of the 'JRPG down time' to some pretty interesting results, Emerald Rogue is a good example (it even has a built-in speedup feature, which is just crazy to think about) at the risk of turning this comment section into a fire emblem flamewar (the engage can of worms is already open anyway, it's inevitable; yes, i'm an engage enjoyer) i'm also going to just throw out there that, as someone who thinks path of radiance is a thoroughly miserable experience in most aspects, the voice acting is incredible and my friend and a shining beacon of light in the darkness which couldn't exist today. i'll also say that the series can and does regularly get much, much worse and more unintuitive than biorhythm; that image might be old enough to drink soon in some countries. FE rom hacks are actually similarly robust and diverse as pokemon rom hacks, and have been able to integrate things like new mechanics and voice acting for well over a decade, so there's a lot of options available that are pretty well-tailored to whatever specific aspects of FE a player might be more or less attuned to. "Pokemblem" is a real thing, exactly what it sounds like, is pretty damn good, and crazy that it exists. basically fire emblem fans are insane if my incoherent rambling didnt already plainly make that obvious
@Suprapika7 күн бұрын
I don't want to play any ROM hacks unless they involve the creator's OC romancing one of the female units. Or any Pokemon ROM hacks without that, for that matter.

out of curiosity, why do you not play the pixel remaster + are there any specific changes you don't like that the pixel remaster made? don't know the game well enough to know which changes are good or bad
@Suprapika7 күн бұрын
There's a few reasons, the main one is that it's the slowest version by far. SNES has project demi to skip cutscenes, and both SNES and GBA have speedup functionality since they're emulated. Another couple reasons is that I also like the look of PR the least, and there's a bug with the Healing Staff that makes you attack your party without the Healing Staff sometimes, and that's really annoying.
@GaryYu-d2e7 күн бұрын
@@Suprapika rip, yeah the pr looks kinda funny, and tree exdeath being tiny instead of covering the entire screen gives off a less imposing effect. the super wide screen makes battles feel kinda empty too. I think all of the games from 1-6 being done in almost the same style hurts 5 and 6 a lot, thought it was very good for 1-4 (and you have more party members in 4 too) but 5 and 6 is where it doesn't fit as much. didn't know about the healing staff bug. I really like the pixel remaster soundtrack for 5 though, a lot of songs i thought were repetitive feel super improved like forest of moore theme, exdeath castle, regular battle theme being 1 minute instead of 30 sec.
@GaryYu-d2e7 күн бұрын
also some of the job changes are cool though I wish they helped the ones that needed it more like dragoon and geomancer. I heard berserker had an atb penalty in the original snes? kinda weird.
