I have a 2016 Kia Soul with 2.0 motor. I use about 2 quarts of oil between 5000 miles oil change. I don’t think that’s bad for such a small motor. Bring yourself up to date, most cars now, you are not able to check the transmission fluid level. It is totally unnecessary to check it nowadays because the transmission does not burn fluid or get as hot as the motor oil.

I’ve got a ‘64 B-25N that I bought for $225 back in Jan ‘81. Plastic bridge and adjustable saddle (like McCartney’s Epi Texan). While the guitar is light and fun to play the sound is severely limited by the bridge design/execution. I’ve watched several videos on replacing/repairing the bridge and may opt to have mine done. I’ve not gotten any estimates but I’m fairly sure it’ll be a few hundred dollars. A quick check on Reverb this morning and B-25s range from $800 to $3000. I guess an investment of a few hundred wouldn’t be out of the question - making it infinitely more enjoyable to listen to. Now I need to find a luthier in the Houston area (would rather not ship it if I can avoid it - don’t want to risk damage and don’t want to pay $100 to $200 to ship) I can trust to do it correctly - and most important - carefully. Any recommendations?

@@jrh11254 I have no clue I'm the Texas area. My buddy Randy, of Randy's Rythm, would probably be able to give you some luthier recommendations. It's not that hard though. The Martin sounds better- no big shocker. But for the money the Recording King sounds very good. The RD-348 sounds better still. My understanding is that there are examples of Recording Kings that sound significantly better. True of Martins also, and most good guitars. You are right on matte finishes being easier to play on. I picked a satin vs gloss Taylor 224 ce- k for just that reason. Not a huge Taylor fan per se- I have owned a Martin D18, Guild D40 in the past- but the Koa has a warmer tone. All. Read KIA technical service bulletin (TSB) 222. And read the law suit settlement on the oil consumption. IMO the issue is low tension rings combined with deposits clogging up the oil control ring and making the compression rings stick too because Direct Injection has more deposits. If you burn at least one quart every 1,000 miles and you can prove maintenance has been done then you might qualify for the service. The service is in part a cleaning fluid introduced in the combustion chamber under pressure to help dissolve the deposits clogging the rings. It’s an attempt to alleviate the issue. It treats the symptom but is not a root cause fix. So many issues with this TSB. First Good luck proving maintenance. Second 1 quart every 1,000 miles is a massive oil consumption problem. I burn 1 quart every 2,500. I can’t qualify. They will make me pay for service. Third If you burn way more than 1 quart every 1,000 there is a chance you will run engine dry before you get it back to dealer for the 1,000 mile check. So you risk blowing up your engine during the 1,000 miles. For the TSB the dealer puts seals on oil fill, oil drain, and dipstick so you can’t tamper with oil level during the 1,000 mile interval. Oil consumption is not normal. The fact that engine has to use at least 1 quart every 1.000 miles to qualify for the service in TSB is insanity.
