This is great. I can do Cornwall, North Country & Cockney/East End, but some of the Midlands and Eastern accents I'm not familiar with. I can distinguish Glaswegian from Edinburgh, and even do Western Scottish like Kircudbright. But I have several blank areas, so this is most helpful. My favourite is probably West Country, although North Country/Lake District is a close second. I'm curious about the late comedian Peter Cook's fallback country accent. I _think_ it is Essex but I could be wrong. A possible subject for future videos would be the accents around Lincoln. I understood from a native that there are several quite different dialect regions with sharp boundaries. Another interesting subject would be how regional dialects are related to the accents of non-english historic invaders, e.g. Vikings, Danes, Saxons etc.

The English Canadian accent is really funny because it can be pretty hard to tell the difference between it and an American accent, because most of us don’t talk like we’ve got the stereotypical Newfoundland/Minnesota accent. As a Canadian, I wouldn’t be able to pick an anglophone Canadian out of a line of Americans if I tried. 🇨🇦

And to viewers trying to improve their English pronunciation, , my advice is to find guidance about pronunciation from someone without speech deficiencies, and without bad speech habits. Decide if you want to adopt a mild cockney accent like this presenter, or if you prefer a more received pronunciation.

And you think America has strange words? Funnily makes me cringe it is so grammatically incorrect it's like a knife in my ear every time I hear a Brit using that "word' as if that's not bad enough they have to add enough. Funnily enough, it's horrible. It's insulting and I can't believe educated people use this word and phrase as if it's totally acceptable. The English make up all kinds of really strange words and phrases. Toad in the hole, spotted dick, bubble and squeak, easy peasy, Bob's yer uncle, yank. I'm going for a walk in Vicky P sounds dirty. The thing that bothers me most about these colloquialisms is Brits are so damn rude about how people in other countries speak like no one else is allowed to have slang words but you and other people are just morons for having their own slang. It's that damn superior British attitude.

Bangs is plural because there are 100s of hairs in a set of bangs. It wouldn't be a bang with 1 hair, that's just a hair isn't it. How is that difficult to understand that it should be bangs. A bang is a loud sound such as when a gun is discharged. If the gun is discharged several times then it is bangs. I think fringe is weird because I think of the fringe on curtains and dresses but I get it. I suspect bangs was a marketing term for anew style of hair and it caught on but I don't know for sure. We would tell a barber or stylist that we want bangs. When women get sick of their bangs they will say, "I'm growing out my bangs" they will let them grown to match the length of the rest of their hair.

Cilantro is the fresh green leaves just like in Spain where they call it cilantro. In America the seeds are called coriander. We differentiate between the seeds and the leaves. How is that confusing? I think calling 2 different things by the same name is more confusing and makes less sense. We also call them aubergines. Blinker is the common name but they're really called a turn signal. We also use tap but mostly just for the bathroom faucets, not the kitchen faucet. Weird huh? Freshman is kind of an old fashioned word now since we split up your education into 3 school, grade school K-6 middle school 7-9 and high school 10-12 so we don't use the term freshman much. When I went to a private high school it was 9 - 12 and the freshman were also known as Frosh.

My complete understanding and ability to pick out different British accents comes directly from being a teen in the 80s! As an American I was obsessed with British musicians (especially Duran Duran) so I could tell pretty quickly if someone was from Birmingham, London or Newcastle 😅. But I think the accents have changed a bit since 40 yrs ago!!

We do have estate agents in America but they just sell Estates, mansions with large pieces of property and actual Estate not some little cottage by the road with a thatched roof and field stone walls. I'm not sure if they even make station wagons anymore? They were really a family car. Check out National Lampoon's Vacation movie to get a better understanding of the a station wagon is. Sneakers are not trainers. LOL They're more basic, they don't have the built in air pods or the cushiony sole they're basic tennis shoes. If you've ever heard of Chuck Taylors, those are sneakers. What Nike and Addidas make are trainers, at first we called them running shoes because that's what they were designed to do. Now they have different names but they are not sneakers.
