At this point it's only allegations, so to pretend that those are the actual truth and therefore judge and condemn a person without any actual evidence doesn't sit well with me. I have no real stakes in this, because I don't read him that much (apart from a Good Omen and the Marvel 1602 comicbook storyline), but I also refuse to act just on hearsay without actual evidence.

As a author, JK Rowling hasn't heard the literary crowd saying things because most of us have already blocked her for being a TERF. I heard about Gaiman being a 'womanizer' 20 years ago. Never thought it was this bad. I was also a fan, but I'll support his work no more.

I mean where do we draw the line? Several years ago I took my kids to a pride parade. Because I thought it would be a fun thing to do and support the community. My daughter was absolutely appalled by almost every float but especially a particular float that had several men and women painted in rainbow colors with 2 ft long dildos they were swinging them around and poking them at each other and other sexual demonstrations. She was horrified and demanded that we went home she was about 8 or 9 years old. How is this any different than somebody whipping out their dick to somebody who doesn't want to see it. Which is considered assault by today's standards. It also seems that this community is constantly accusing itself for sexual assault. But then there is consensual assault, and then maybe later you change your mind. It doesn't make any sense.

I have only read a few Niel Gaiman things. He didn't speak to me as a great writer ... He felt more like a show off - it felt look at me i am so clever to write witty and profound things.. I acknowledge many did and fans were deeply connected to his works. It's a sucky scenerio. I am encouraged by people "cancelling" with problematic human beings. Cancelling is editing it is not censorship.

I can't separate Gaiman from his work. I want to rid myself of all his books in my home. I usually give books to the library, but I don't want to recruit readers. The library is supposed to be a safe place. Won't readers feel betrayed if they learn about him as a person? (As I feel right now.) I have been torn up about it. I have pondered separating the art from the artist for quite awhile and the nearest to "maybe" understanding my beliefs is a work by Picasso, who was a jerk. I cry when I see "Guernica" at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, his famous work on the bombing of a Basque village by Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. Spain's fascist leader Franco said he wished they would bomb more villages. "It is one of his best-known works, regarded by many art critics as the most moving and powerful anti-war painting in history." I have seen it three times, it takes up almost a full wall. I cry, it is so overwhelming. I think the art in this instance is above the artist... elevated to a higher status with its political message seared into this picture. I can look at it and not think ... oh, Picasso... it's beyond him. But how many artists/writers/creators rise to that level where the work transcends the creator? I read a lot and although there are many books I love, and Gaiman's was among them, it contains Gaiman's personality.... the books/comics are wrapped in his persona. They don't rise to the level of a "Guernica." I am still trying to figure this out, but here I am.

I'm still trying to process this. I've met Neil Gaiman on three separate occasions and always found him to be very kind and a massive inspiration. I idolised him in my teens and early 20s. I still believe in separating art from an artist (I'm still a fan of the art of some pretty terrible people), though this time will be a challenge. I feel weirdly betrayed, even though I'm not one of the victims and have no right to consider myself when compared with what they went through. I wish this wasn't happening.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t come as a surprise to me. His writing gives us a glimpse into his twisted mind and justifications for all things, including poking fun at a God who will one day bring justice to the world. No shocker here. There are more just like him still covering their trail until it all comes out. Thanks for your candid report.

To bad Vulture didn't run an article like that on Trump during his first campaign. The number of allegations were much higher.... The most disturbing ones involved parties put in by his friend Jeffrey Epstein. Lots of hush hush money was paid before that first campaign. It's part of the reason why his whole strategy is based on Hitler's big lie theory. If people start taking for facts... No matter how much they tried to bury them, It's freaking scary. No joke.

Why would you use JKR's perspective on this? She's an obsessively bigoted propagandist who's been spreading heinous lies about a group that she doesn't belong to for decades F every creator who's talking about this and brings that deranged lunatic's words into a conversation about abuse as though she hasn't dedicated herself to abusing the smallest and most vulnerable population of people It just makes it seem like you don't actually care one single bit about the title of your own video. Idk. Maybe you're just an asshole using a bad situation to get clicks

I will not pretend that I heard rummors since the 90s, neither that until 2010 sex deviant behaviors among artists wasn't incentive by people who talk like it was a good gimmick from the called 'genius'. After mee too we started to see as bad, but I will not pretend that people didnt praise such behaviours before.

Is it terrible to be in the situation of power imbalance? Absolutely. Did they give their consent? Absolutely. Is consensual BDSM lawful? Absolutely. Innocent until proven guilty... BDSM is not something illegal or maybe you live in 19th century still? Did religion dig a hole in your brains? There's nothing immoral in BDSM when it is conesnsual. And the alleged "victims" all said they allowed all of this to happen. Power imbalance or not, consent is a legal term and in this case it was given. Maybe you want to go back to authoritarian times when government was in your bedrooms? If my partner asks me to try BDSM just once, I will just say no. If they threaten me with a breakup, if I don't partake in BDSM, I will just break up on the spot. If they beg me participate for a lot of money, I will decline. What kind of person, man or woman, are you if you are willing to do something for money???

i genuinely think the main reason is that, these days there is a much bigger focus on characters than plot in fantasy novels and this deeply affects the worldbuilding. especially due to tiktok i think, people focus more on character dynamics and the characters identity than on why they're part of the story and authors are now writing accordingly.

There are authors whose works I've loved that, if I heard such things about them, I would immediately dismiss them as ridiculous, because the mind that created those works is not compatible with the actions described. I've loved Neil Gaiman's works. But putting these allegations next to the mind that created those works, the allegations are easy to believe. He's very good at portraying charismatic darkness. Shocking, but not surprising. His life must be miserable, glory and riches notwithstanding. May justice be done, and may God forgive him.

He had a consensual BDSM sexual relationship with much younger women than him. He sounds like a weird guy in a midlife crisis for sure. But they all said they participated in his weird BDSM sessions willingfully and they received money from him (with NDA, because even though consensual BDSM is lawful, he just wanted all of this to stay private as it should be). Again he just seems weird, but monster is quite the stretch IMHO. I advise everyone to just read his post in "Gaiman's Journal". He admits he might have hurt people in the past and that he's not some 100% pure angel and just a person like everyone else and he learned a lot from the past. He denies all allegations of SA though.

well I have been reading Neil Gaiman since the 80s and yes he is one of the best writers out there loved his prose esp. on the Sandman books, now I always thought he was a good guy but yah everyone has a skeleton in his closet and like Bill Cosby I did not know it was this bad. I would say seperate the author from his books, but its hard to do for many people, and true me also his writing is so good and personal that I really was shocked that he turned out this way

I hate to say it, but I'm kinda okay with a word limit. For example. I was totally digging The Bound and the Broken until book 3. Where I felt like it was just too long. Maybe if Cahill had a word limit, it might have been a stronger book. In my opinion, of course.

The separate the art from the artist thing should always come with the caveat: If you can. And either way, it is a personal thing. No one should be looking at and judging others for how they handle this. I tend to be able to separate them, but not always. And that inconsistency is also valid, because it is mine. I haven't begun to process how his work will fall for me - I am so disheartened right now, and so disgusted with him. My heart goes out to those women.

I got to see him speak in 2015. It was fantastic. I haven't read the article, I'll look it up, but I am a firm believer in innocence until proven guilty, and am very aware of how damaging smear campaigns can be. I am very wary of the media... Especially a publication named Vulture... Who is owned by Vox. Which is owned by establishment media, bought and paid for. Did he not toe the line at some point? Vox just published ANOTHER article about him 6 hours ago, so I find that highly suspect. They make bank off of smearing folks, I'm not about to jump on any bandwagon yet. He's denied the allegations, so he gets a fair say. I've seen people get smeared in articles and socials, and then charges get dropped because of falsehoods and cases falling apart, but the social and career damage is done. EDIT: okay, so reading this second piece, it's clearly an opinion piece, and it just smeared Justin Baldoni even though his counter lawsuit provided concrete evidence this far of Blake Lively's heavily edited and disingenuous text messages. It also doesn't address the bullying that both Lively and Reynolds engaged in prior to these allegations. It's sickening how quickly and how methodically these "news" outlets work. They're machines. www.vox.com/culture/395201/neil-gaiman-justin-baldoni-me-too-backlash She's literally spreading misinformation on the Lively-Baldoni case, all one has to do is read the public records. This is how they work.

This is why i never had "heros" or favorite authors. I dont seek out interviews or even care about who wrote the books i enjoy, i just enjoy the story and move on. The truth is almost everyone has things in their closet they keep hidden and you never know who they are. Everyone is flawed, some more than others. Usually the the ones who claim self righteousness are the worst of all.
