Nice! I was in Kauai last week but only managed to catch a micro papio and a little to'au. Mainly fished Hanalei and Nawiliwili harbor. Do you kill all the Roi that you catch?

Right on at least you caught some fish! Yes I always kill the roi because it’s invasive. But ima eat my next one. Heard they taste amazing. But just can’t eat too often because of ciguatera 🤙

I believe it was a 40 or 60 gram major craft silver jig. Something heavy enough to cast into the wind 🤙

I tie the fluoro to a barrel swivel. Then the barrel swivel to the split ring on the lure. Thanks for watching 🤙

@@laling_12 Depends on the water depth. This spot was shallow with white wash so i do a fast retrieve and let it splash on the surface to trigger a reaction bite. If its deep i do the same but sometimes i let it sink a little and then retrieve with different speeds. But i always do a pretty fast retrieve with MW lures cause it swims nice

Bought a 2 and a 3oz minnow jig after watching this video. 3oz is too heavy for my pole. 🤣 Going to try my luck tomorrow morning. Im here on Kauai too. Do you recommend a fast retrieve with these for papio?

Damn I never caught anything using the mark whites..

Keep trying! Never give up. It took me about 6 months before I caught anything on them. But I realized I was using them in the wrong areas. Look for waves and plenty white water. Mark whites create a mean bubble trail when quick retrieving and that’s what will create a reaction bite from bigger fish 🤙

Just reeling fast right when the lure hits the water. I don’t sink the jig when I whip it over shallows like this. But still yet I get snagged sometimes 🤙 Also no treble. I have one or two singles on

A rod for a reel that size would be anywhere from $100-$1000. Depends on your budget. I started out with the tsunami airwave elite. Cost about $200

Mostly small guys. It’s tough if u only have one week. I use to go every weekend and sometimes I would catch two weeks in a row. Other times I won’t catch a good size one for 6 months. It’s hard to say. The small guys r pretty consistent tho. I just put my time in and wish for the best . Just have to enjoy every session regardless if u catch or not 🤙

do you have to wade out far on the reefs to throw plugs like this? I've only been successful whipping Campania lures with a float to catch 1-2 lb papio and omilu...

Not necessarily. I’ve caught some decent omilu off the rocks and even straight off the beach. It all depends on location and timing. I try to go places were not many people want to go because you have to hike in or I’ll try hit some good looking reefs straight off the beach. I like when the weather is poor and there is a lot of waves and current. Seems to be more productive 🤙

I walked from the shoreline. Had plenty time to fish that day so I just whipped the whole way down. Such a nice spot 🤙

Pretty much can fish anywhere on Kauai but if u want to catch better fish u have to go places where there r not many people. I would suggest areas of reef with deeper spots and some white water. Throw out some shrimp or squid if ur looking to catch anything. Casting out lures or using a Carolina rig for light plastics. It’s all luck and time spend fishing that will catch u fish.
