Awesome, thank you for this secret knowledge:) 5 years later but still valuable information...and the way you do it in Revit 2023 is still precisely like in Daniel's video. Creates a bit of inconvenience when you actually have this wall in the building attached to a bunch of other elements, but it is what it is. And thank you again for providing tutorial on workaround :)

Great stuff, very important topic for those setting up the project. One key piece of this puzzle that was not mentioned was permissions/licenses, and the minimums required to get this working. Somehow there is always an issues with someone not being able to access something, either due to some permission or not everyone having access to abc pro. I know I am being picky about this, but I avoid using the words "BIM360" altogether, since its all on the ACC now and you do not really see that branding anywhere anymore. It does not help that Autodesk has not updated some of their help pages to reflect the new ACC menus and naming. It just adds to some confusion when I talk about ACC but the links I send for help only says bim360.

Grateful for your pickiness! Thanks for the comments. The terminology is indeed a good point, I should probably say ACC. As I mentioned in the video, the short series is meant to focus on different linking techniques and not how to set up the project, which is where permissions come into play... maybe in a future one (with you as guest? :)).

Hello Daniel, I am currently trying to help get everyone in the firm I work for setup so we can start projects correctly related to this and have run into a few issues that nobody at Autodesk can answer: 1. On project 1, I am able to get it to work just as you show in this video series without a problem. 2. On project 2, one I'm working on in the early design stages (out in the middle of the mountains/woods in Utah) has a very high level survey(10ft contours) set to the state planes coordinate system with the correct aerial map showing but when I check geolocation the pin is in the Pacific Ocean. I got to looking at that because when I bring it into Revit and do as you do in the videos it doesn't move the survey point. 3. On project 3, a project others in the office are working on in Texas has a survey that is also set to state plane coordinate system but it however does show the correct geolocation. Even with the correct geolocation it does not move the survey point in Revit. Have you successfully gotten your process to work on a very larger land planning project that is set to a state plane coordinate system? Any suggestions?
@DanielStineNow
@DanielStineNow 29 күн бұрын
At the end of the day, the Revit survey point is really just aligning with the CAD origin (which is the benchmark of the state/county/etc coordinate system). For some reason the survey point does not always aligned with the origin but the N/E numbers should be real-time to that same CAD origin. Does this align with what you are seeing across your three examples?
@corymiller1580
@corymiller1580 21 күн бұрын
@@DanielStineNow Thank you for the suggestion. I have been able to get the projects to work in Revit now. I just cant get it to align properly back in CAD but I believe it is because the contour file we are using are from conceptual design phases so its from GIS. I will try again once we get actual surveys for the projects.

Nice update, in room schedule, we can have floor, ceiling and but for the wall is it possible for 4 walls of the rooms with its associated finishes, I think using embedded schedules it should be possible, can you pls make a video on it
@DanielStineNow
@DanielStineNow Ай бұрын
Unfortunately the default way Revit works, Room Schedules cannot read materials from system families surrounding/enclosing a room. We created an add-in that can do this... i.e., read Revit wall/floor/ceiling/roof material and transfer that to text fields in the Room schedule, but it is not auto/continuous, so still prone to errors.

Revit, as a modeling tool for custom 3D objects (couch, chair, other entourage), is in a stone age. While it is possible to model intricate 3D objects in a free software, even web-based ones, like OnShape, Revit didn't change it's approach since V.1: extrusion, blend, revolve, sweep, sweep blend... that's all Revit got? - sad, borderline pathetic. Am I missing something?

Hi Daniel - really love your firm and all that you share to help other architects. I ran into an issue after following the encscape article in the description and hoping you might be able to help. I exported my decimated blender file per Pieter's webinar link to make the custom asset and.... "An error occurred while trying to import the model file. Error message: unable to find matching buffer file." At only 3kb for the gltf, I can't help but think something failed in the export from Blender. I can't find anything on this and thinking you might be able to point me in the right direction

We would like to purchase a trimble product to control the iron reinforcement on the construction site and to see the deficiencies or errors in its application. We have reviewed your x7 and x9 products for a while, but now we realize that products such as Sitevision and XR10 would be more accurate in terms of our product control. I wonder what the differences are between these two products? I know one is AR and the other is MR, but is there any other difference other than that? We will work with the model we created in Revit. Which product would be more suitable?

Dan, you make it look so easy (as it should be!). But not for me. Can you share your 2024 Revit import 'Positioning' menu choices? The Sketchup export portion seems to work fine, but the Revit import get my elevations dramically wrong. Terraine that I know is ~50' ASL is coming into 2024 Revit at ~1' ASL. I am starting from an empty ('none') Revit project file. Thanks!

Hi. I was building custom casework families and I'm not sure between face based, work plane based and non hosted. wanted to know your opinion on that. thanks
@DanielStineNow
@DanielStineNow 10 ай бұрын
It can vary depending on what you want and the type of work you do. Base cabinets are often non hosted as they can be placed in the middle of a room. Wall cabinets might want to be the same if suspended in the middle of a room. Otherwise, wall cabinets might be face based to move with a wall for improved coordination.
@ArchAhmadWaheed
@ArchAhmadWaheed 4 ай бұрын
In addition, If you are going to use groups, it's better to avoid using face based families inside groups. It can cause some problems as I remember from one of the RevitKid videos.
