@@JohnThePA I appreciate it though your best video was the one that got your patient care experience before PA school. That’s what got me on here so thank you.

Yes, DINK is like activating a cheat code. If and when kids happen, that will be a significant diversion of funds.

Yoooo! I've seen your car parked in the town (I don't wanna name it) as I walk to one of the small bars. I recognized the "OBAMA" license plate, and even took a photo with my buddy of it! Look out for a C7 A6 with some supercharger whine! Enjoy the drive brother!

Where are these jobs? The 2 ER jobs I’ve had I was paid $50/hr plus incentives, could go up to $70/hr. My current job I make $68/hr base rate.

Glad you are sharing the benefit of your experience; these are important insights. Re: simple first aid and home care for minor illnesses, I learned first aid from some Red Cross courses in elementary school, and learned about taking care of illnesses from my mom. But if someone wasn't fortunate enough to grow up learning this stuff, nowadays there are vast resources to learn from instantly--we have free advice nurse hotlines, tons of reputable web sites (though sadly, it seems like a lot of people don't distinguish between medical experts and quacks), and even ChatGPT--so I can't see any excuse for showing up to the ER for something minor instead of just looking up what to do about it.

Hi John, I appreciate the quality and very informative videos as always. I’m finishing up undergrad and starting PA school next June. I’m just curious from your perspective: what are the major benefits of being a PA compared to an MD? More specifically, what are the most influential positives/negatives that have you have noticed &/or directly impacted you in your ER position? I’m currently working as a PCT in a hospital and am hearing many great things about being a PA, and since it’s the route I’m heading I want to be more definitive (closer to 100% although I know that may not be realistic in all cases) in my decision to choose this path over MD since I’ve been having some recent conflicting thoughts

Im a new grad NP. I work in the ER as a nurse. I want to do urgent care as an NP as well. I’m looking for a place where I can get the best training possible and 3 day work week. Most places I’ve seen are only offering a couple of weeks of training. I’d love to find one offering 6-12 months. Where are those?

Yes, PAs are in many occasions plan B for those who do not make it to med school. It is also plan A for those who like the fun of medicine without the hard work and sacrifice, which is just unfair for the rest of us. In the UK up to 50% of applicants have already been rejected from med school, and many of those who graduate as PAs apply to med school afterwards. PA roles should not exist. It’s just a way the system has to save money in expend of patient safety and making doctor’s jobs harder. It’s just unfair.

You’re right. Ima new grad np that started working in urgent care and I had three days of training! They didn’t teach me how to do procedures. I wanna find a training course near me that would show me how. I’m very sad that I don’t get properly trained bc I wanna be really good at my job 😢

Regardless of the profession, there is a universal truth: who gets the job may not be the one who can best do the job, but the one who can best do the interview for the job. Sad but true. I suspect this is true of this type of interview.
@JohnThePA
@JohnThePA 2 ай бұрын
A PA program may get 2,000 - 3,000 applicants. They then extend an interview to a couple hundred people for, say, 50 seats. Some have more seats and others have less. Some applicants offered a spot may choose a different school. But the vast majority of applicants are never able to show up to talk about themselves. Many are qualified but the interview is a way to show that off.

I’m so happy I watched this! I just submitted my applications on CASPA for the next cycle and I am SO HAPPY! I feel a sense of urgency to prepare for interviews. This video really helped me get an understanding of what I could expect moving forward and how to stay calm and collected during the process. Thank you thank you! God is always touching on our hearts. As a viewer I appreciate you to help the upcoming PAs.

Really good points, especially the area and cost of living. I’m a new grad PA who accepted an ICU job in California, and I’m making 40,000 - 50,000 more a year than any of my classmates, but it’s cause I’m moving to a high cost of living area. Also my current state SUCKS at compensation haha.
