Glad you posted this. Watched many APP's crash and burn in the ER. Mainly in Fast Track. I agree.. not being a solo provider helps in any setting honestly. Thanks again.❤

Just finished shadowing last two weeks at an urgent care, all the issues you spoke about are exactly what happens at the urgent care, patients backed up, being a solo provider etc. All pre PAs should shadow in at least once in an emergency/urgent care speciality to get an idea of what the job entails.

Thanks for commenting! I did a full PA school rotation at urgent care as it was my backup plan should I not find an ER gig right out of school. Urgent care thrives off of patient volume at the end of the day. Things will get out of hand if you have to constantly look things up, are slow at documenting, or stumble through your patient encounters. The volume is the major determining factor as to whether a new grad will do well in a solo provider urgent care. Looking for one with two or more providers until you have experience is a better idea.

at times u keep me going with this PA thing especially as a new graduate PA from Ghana. it is unfortunate but the PA program in Ghana is rather a servitude than a profession. i wish one day i will see a content on how to escape this slavery.

You’re right. Ima new grad np that started working in urgent care and I had three days of training! They didn’t teach me how to do procedures. I wanna find a training course near me that would show me how. I’m very sad that I don’t get properly trained bc I wanna be really good at my job 😢

Im a new grad NP. I work in the ER as a nurse. I want to do urgent care as an NP as well. I’m looking for a place where I can get the best training possible and 3 day work week. Most places I’ve seen are only offering a couple of weeks of training. I’d love to find one offering 6-12 months. Where are those?

As a PA of 4 years working in the ED, how often are you making the nurses wait 45mins for you to put in basic labs? While you’re consulting with the physicians on every single patient?

Hello, I have a question about PA. I heard when you apply for PA school you have to wait one year gap when they accept you! Is this right or not?

It's not a gap year, you can apply using CASPA starting in May of your application year, but you are typically applying to schools that start the following summer, so you would interview in the fall and winter. Basically, it's typically a year between applying and starting.

Also make sure to apply as soon as CASPA opens, even though you have a year the early applicants are the ones that get higher preferences. So even though applications are open for a year don’t wait around for 6 months after applications are open, do it ASAP.

I am in this process right now applying to EM gigs as a new grad. How long should a training period be? I’m seeing only 3 month onboarding
@JohnThePA
@JohnThePA Жыл бұрын
Three months would be the bare minimum. I would say, ideally, 6-12 months. If it's three months, I would do a lot of notes, questions, and studying up on cases at home.

@@JohnThePA any suggestions on how to find those 6-12 month gigs? Thanks again for all your help and awesome content

I’m considering maybe doing wound care first to start making some dough, and hunt for that just right EM gig
