My first motorcycle was a Rebel 300, with a bunch of modifications, mostly for comfort. In my honest opinion, the bike can easily handle up to 70mph, and feels especially happy in 4th and 5th gear around 45-55mph. Once you get into 6th and you're around 65mph, the bike takes in the seconds to actually accelerate usually. This is fine on backroads, but on something like Interstate 5 for example (Seattlelite here), you're not going to be passing people safely unfortunately. It just doesn't have the power after 65 to safely overtake anything. That being said, the rebel 300 is so forgiving with the gears, and so fun to ride, whoever reads this, go get one! You won't regret it, especially if it's your first bike! P.S. Don't waste money on an exhaust for the 300, none of them sound good 🤣

As others mention here, there is an extended FJR windscreen but for me it is still not tall enough... (I am 1,88 meters tall). That is my only problem with this bike, it is very good. I bought mine in 2009, with the heavier clutch and 5 gears, which is OK. I immediately noticed the balance and how easy it is to manoeuvre in town. And if you need to drive in town a lot, the steering wheel is more narrow than bikes like BMW R and K series. It comes standard with many the options like cruise controle, heated handlebars. The second downside I found so far is that it is so smooth and good that I am missing some of the experience. When I picked up mine, I wondered why everyone was driving so slow... but it was just the bike that was so quiet and smooth. You need to drive 160km/h on the the highway to get a more "thrilling" feeling of driving fast... and even than you can still open the throttle and be pushed back in your seat. This thing just loves speed and curvy roads... I have a hard time deciding what my next bike will be. PS. for a GPS I bought a nut with a RAM mount ball, a bit like this one techmounts.com/shop/ols/products/yamaha-fjr-replacement-stem-nut-mount-with-1-25mm-ball-mount-only

Love my 2018. Came over from a Big Vulcan 1700. First test ride I was sold. Smooth endless power. Also a Mo resident, bought the extended FJR windscreen. I keep trying to go back to a cruiser but my inner 15 year old(im 53) wont let me. Its better than coffee in the morning. Plus a local dealer was having a tent sale. I bought my 2018 in 2019,from the show room, 0 miles on the ticker, $13,000.

how is the heat coming off of the exhaust pipes/engine? I have had three Yamaha ventures since the 80s, between each Venture, I tried a BMW K 1200 LT,( never again), and a GL 1800 Goldwing(perfect motorcycle but boring and not overly roomy) but now I’m back on a royal star venture. I just haven’t found anything that I like better, but I tried. this motorcycle and the Venture version of this bike are interesting. I went to my local Yamaha dealer to see the new Yamaha ventures when they came out in 2018. The dealer said the only way he will get one in, pre-order only.. I asked the dealer if someone has ordered one yet so I could at least see it? I stopped in several times in hopes of seeing one that was ordered, now here in 2024, that dealership has gone out of business… I have not seen one of these motorcycles on the roads here in Western Pennsylvania yet, and it is six years since they have release the venture new model V twin. When I stopped in in 2018 inquiring about the Venture. I ended up buying a Goldwing because I was ready to buy now at that time.. I did test ride a Kawasaki voyager, 1700 cc twin last year used. I actually have a video of that test ride on my channel. The engine lifters were ticking so much, that I didn’t buy the bike. I found out later that that is not unusual or harmful… they have hydraulic lifters or valve lash adjusters as they are described. It just sounded like someone playing castanets, you can even hear the clatter in my test ride video on KZbin. But I really liked that bike after thinking about it and researching and finding out that the ticking is not unusual… I ended up changing my mind about a week later, and I called the owner, but he never called me back, so I am assuming it was sold. it wasn’t very powerful for a 1700 cc the twin, the way that the Yamaha road star warrior was. A friend of mine had one of those and that had massive torque… A very pleasant engine on that Yamaha road star warrior, but I could not sit in that position with my feet way out front and hanging onto the handlebars, sitting on my tail bone.. so how is the heat coming off of this engine on this Yamaha eluder?? Heat is one thing I will not put up with.. I only had one motorcycle that was ridiculously hot. It was a 1980s Honda 700 saber. I could feel that heat from the engine/radiator coming through my Aero stitch suit on a cool day… I only kept that bike Long enough for one ride, after that ride, I put it on eBay and it’s sold almost immediately.. so how’s the heat? I read a KZbin review of a rider that owned the new V twin, Venture, he said the heat coming off the exhaust pipe had him go to the hospital from heat blisters on the inside of his thigh from the exhaust pipe… To me, that’s a deal killer
@tgmotorider.narratinglifeo34803 күн бұрын
I thought the heat was tolerable. Definitely not as bad as my ZX 14. I agree with you on the Goldwing not enough legroom on mine. Thank you for watching.

I have a 2011 Vaquero 1700, I get a solid 38 mpg, V&H slip ons, want to tune it. (Ivan) later. Great bike for the value, I can ride it until I need fuel and get back on and ride some more. Very nice stock seat. Too bad Kawasaki has not made more options, say a Bluetooth set up, maybe GPS or navigation... I have only been out with my brother once and he did have to admit, vs his 103 HD Street Glide, he said I was quicker off the stop. But I think the double Overdrive hurts me from taking him at HWY speeds. I should buy some cameras and make video before and after I send my ECM to Ivan. In closing, I really have no idea what I would pick for my next bike, I like this one.

I’m know this video is two years old but for me it’s timely and awesome. The comments are great also. I’m in the process of choosing between a VTX and a T-bird. The VTX I’m looking at is $5500 and there are a couple of T-birds that look good at about $9500. Age for mileage they are comparable. I’m in Australia, hence the prices. I currently have a BMW R1100S and a BMW R1150GS (both of which I plan to keep) so I’m looking for an affordable cruiser to go with them. For affordability I am heavily leaning toward the VTX. Is the fuel economy and range equation bad enough to choose the T-bird over the VTX. Hopefully someone will see this and reply.
@tgmotorider.narratinglifeo348012 күн бұрын
First of all thank you so much for watching, you are in a different situation being in Australia. Ordinarily, I would say buy the VTX, as long as parts are readily available should the unthinkable happen and it should break. The bigger gas tank on the Thunderbird is awesome. The fuel range on the Thunderbird is quite good and way better than the VTX. And I’m pretty sure it’s still easy enough to get parts for Thunderbirds. So it might come down to which one is easier to repair where you are. The good news is both of these motorcycles are exceptionally reliable. I put both of mine through hell and they were awesome and I never had a problem. You could always just flip a coin, HEADS!! See? VTX.

I enjoy watching these reviews of these, by UK standards, over weight over the top behemoth motorcycles, they are so different to what we have. These bikes aren't even available over here, if you want this style of bike you have a choice of Harley or Indian and both of those are so expensive as to be unaffordable to the average working man.

I can confirm that the last gen FJR1300 (with 6 speed) is really great. I had the bigger screen, made a lot of travelling with it. Made 30'000 km, really great. You can drive 260 km/h on the Autobahn... I replaced it with a Multistrada V4 Rally, it offers me an even better wind protection and more ground clearance. If I wouldn't have had the cash for the Ducati, I'd still drive the FJR1300 and be happy with it. For the navigation system: I had quadlock attached to the brake reservoir, it was all right.
