Absolute wonderful video, subscribed, liked. I have spent so many hours watching other KZbin videos that are even sponsored with lots of extra unneeded items covered with still no clear answers. How you don’t have more views and sponsors is beyond me. I’m going to recommend your video to Adam Savage, who built his own wooden dry box with a humidifier he purchased on Amazon as I don’t think he took into account, the moisture absorbing properties of wood, which he built the cabinet out of. I’m curious if you thought about that bottom plug that helps with the convection air movement of some sort of vacuum port that sucks out air when the unit is off, for example, during the nighttime ? if people are having a hard time finding material for the inside lining, look for attic insulation suppliers as a lot of of that stiff is used no in commercial real estate for insulation between rafters of home attics as well as the interiors of Shipping containers, where thick R 19 fiberglass takes up too much space.

The limitations in non-commercial drying boxes are the components. The fan you are using is inadequate. Even projector exhaust heat fans are limited to 65 C. The problem is the limitation of the electronic and circulation components for a nylon able drying box design that relies on internal components within the 70-90 C environment is very limited. That is why none of the currently available filament boxes get much hotter than 50C. The safety standards prevent it. Plastic fan blades, non-metalic bearings and even the containment box are temp and lifespan limited. That is why even a current dryer that reaches 65C provides a second motor to turn the filament roll because of the life span at high temps. Trying to make a DIY high temp box is admirable but difficult and not without risks. While its ability to provide filament feed is limited, a small kitchen air fryer is a great solution for just drying. But then you should provide a containment and exhaust system for the VOCs being exhausted from the air fryer. No easy solution.

One could use a heat gun or hair dryer as both have heated fans and are available to consumers
@bw16217 күн бұрын
@ Neither of your examples operate in recirculated heated air. They pull in air that is room temp and blow it across a heated element. The red hot element is at the nozzle, not near the fan or wiring. Additionally, they are high velocity fans making a lot of noise that only operated for short periods….not 6 or more hours as in these fans. And the frequently reported operating panel issues are heat related. One company ships an extra panel ribbon cable with their filament dryer for that reason. Virtually none of the components are designed or appropriate components for sustained high temps. You won’t see a 50C+ filament heater that has the control panel and all the wiring along the inside of a thin plastic lid. It won’t survive. The temps most are advertising are right next to the heating element. Heat is the enemy of electronics whether it is your computer or stereo equipment.

How many ornaments will this supply
@mightystudiosvids2 ай бұрын
The connectors I used would only allow wires to be run to 7 total ornaments, but all of them should work. I don't own that many to test for sure. In theory, those ornaments needed about 120 mA current each, so 7-8 would be under 1Amp, which the power supply can handle. However, not all the ornaments they sold have the same current draw, so your mileage might vary.

Could you explain more about the steam escape and the one at the bottom for the "convection flow". So I have seen many things (IE my pressure cooker) have valves at the top to slowly release steam. But that's high pressure steam. Why is a simple valve at the top helping release humidity/steam from the box? And I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by "convection flow" like what kind of air is coming in through that valve? How does it help dry filament more efficiently? And I cant quite tell are those heating elements outside or inside of the box?
@mightystudiosvids4 ай бұрын
The heating element is inside the box. What you see on the outside is just the electronics control board. Since hot air rises, I added two holes to the box that I can open. One low and one high. The upper hole lets the hot steam escape so it does not remain trapped in the box. To help it vent faster, the lower hole lets cooler room air flow into the box. This creates a convection current through the box from the lower hole to the upper hole, allowing the moist air to be removed. Hope this helps.

Which I read need around 80+ celcius
