Thanks for posting this. I've been searching for an AC power supply for the ornaments and had not been able to find one.

So can I just snip the wires on my ornament and wire them to the new type of LED lights? I was under the impression the LED lights dont have enough power to make the ornaments work. I have a few that have light and sound from hallmark back in late 1990s and early 2000s...unfortunately all before 2009. I haven't had this problem till now because of getting new LED lights for the tree

Is amperage not much of a concern? I don't want to burn anything out by having too few or something.

Not really. These ornaments drew tiny amounts of current. A power supply with only 1 or 2 amps of capacity will be sufficient. If you were super concerned you could put a small one fuse into this circuit before the splitter.

Just got around to wiring up everything and all is good except one ornament doesn't work with the 6VAC power supply. It's the borg cube that talks when turned on. I verified the socket I plugged it into had power but no joy. I had also made a series connection for two spinners and tried plugging it into that which also didn't work. I still have one old set of lights that works and when I plug it in there it still works so I know it's not bad. Dang!

if you can get it working with an old light strand, can you get a meter in there to see what kind of power it draws?

Will be trying this method...well I personally won't, my boyfriend and our electrician friend will be tackling this...I refuse to spend anything close to what the legacy cords are going for. Absolutely ridiculous 😂

How many ornaments will this supply
@mightystudiosvids2 ай бұрын
The connectors I used would only allow wires to be run to 7 total ornaments, but all of them should work. I don't own that many to test for sure. In theory, those ornaments needed about 120 mA current each, so 7-8 would be under 1Amp, which the power supply can handle. However, not all the ornaments they sold have the same current draw, so your mileage might vary.

@@mightystudiosvidsI’ve got 5 old ornaments: Vader, Falcon and three NASA ornaments. When one is plugged in the lights are fine. Even two. But when I start plugging in more, the lights all start to dim. Audio still works, but lights in the ornaments dims. The NASA - One Small Step For Mandkind” light pretty much goes out. Audio still works but no light once I plug in a few things. My wiring is just like yours, all parallel. Guessing there’s just too much draw?

@@mikeweber951 Sounds like it. Some ornaments need more power than others. I saw in this other video someone uses a 8.5v AC power supply to run the ornaments. Same wiring scheme, just more power. Lots of advice in the comments there, too. Just be careful not to overload them with too much power. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWmXeKmXd7-mq7M
