Most barefoot shoes are too much like actually being barefoot. I went with Jim Green barefoot African Rangers that have zero-drop soles but plenty of support and protection.

I don't know about you but I only wear shoes outside in the city, at home I'm barefoot. We are also often barefoot on our backyards and beach, so no I did not have to learn to walk again when i got my pair a good 10 or so years ago. I was also careful not to strike heel first , because that was the whole point of having them back then, when you could only choose between weird five fingers and ugly merrells. I went with merrells. They were thrown in the trash last week. Poor ugly bastards.

Your not putting your foot under extra load when barefoot. That comes down to poor running technique. All those symptoms you mentioned come from poor running technique. Listen to your feet when you run, and your body will adjust its stride to transfer your weight efficiently. Pretend you are trying to run as silent and possible and you will see what I mean, you do not put more load on your feet when barefoot.

Dangers of endurance sports: - bonking - dehydrating - over hydrating (hyponatremia) - heat stroke / overheating The 3rd and 4th have probably claimed more lives.

nice collection of tips :) what does 40 watt mean on average around a typical cycling speed (lets say 30km/h)? how many km/h might these 40 watts be (roughly)?

Just like anything else if your getting foot pain while training you're definately going too hard on them. If the lack of padding is too much for you just get an insole and slowly decrease the thickness of it until your most comfortable (think like progressive overload in the gym). The biggest thing for me is how they unload your knee and instead load you're tendons and calves (which can actually strengthen over time versus your knee joint which mostly just wears out). All that cushioning may take impact off your feet but the force has to go somewhere, and from most of the reading I've done it's your knee joint. There are lot's of top tier runners who run barefoot or in barefoot shoes, they aren't top tier in terms of competition but they are in terms of lifestyle and health. The only reason all "top tier" competition runners wear extremely angled padded shoes that make them faster is to win races. And you have to train in what your going to race in to be highly competitive. I'm sure they suffer from the same knee and foot issues later in life that most of the science I've read says those heeled foot binding shoes have been a root cause of. I just went for a 4 hour walk the other week and it was the first time in my life that I have walked that long with absolutely no pain.

I have been in barefoot shoes for 3 years now. One of the best decisions i have ever made and im never going back, i use them for everything including running 10k's regularly and just the other week i hiked 80km in terrain with a backpack without any problems, and my feet both look and feel more healthy now. Also this video is kinda ragebaiting/fearmongering. Do better Edit: yes there is a transitioning period and it is very important that you dont go to hard during that. (I recommend using a lightly cushioned zerodrop running shoe) but it's absolutely worth it!

I was part of the barefoot wearer sect for over 15 years. And i am glad i finally stopped. I had multiple medical problems with my feet after wearing them for 7 years. I choose my "normal" shoes carefully. There are many normal shoes who doesn't destroy your health. You don't need to join the barefoot bandwagon. But do whatever is good for you. Good video man!

Well, I kinda hate this video. It is simply wrong on so many levels. The title already makes it clear that the approach here is totally wrong. For a "common person" the body has adjusted itself drastically to the shape of normal (unhealthy) shoes. Reversing this damage takes time and caution! Jumping to an experiment of wearing barefoot shoes 365 days when you aren't used to this is CLEARLY not the way to do this! If you lack the right mentality or level of body awareness, then stay away from barefoot shoes and definitely from spreading nonsense like this because THAT is encouraging unhealty feet and risking injuries.

Some of these racers aren’t rich in the running world so they need to be at the top look at the African runners do you think they wouldn’t do whatever it takes to get out of a no air conditioning village to even just an apartment? Your crazy Then you have all the sponsored people who just care about winning Lance got caught cause he was a dick I bet if he treated his teammates better we would never have known.

Nope! It took me a few weeks to “transition” to barefoot shoes. No pain or crying. I’ve always walked a lot and still do so maybe that has something to do with the fact my feet aren’t pathetic and get a bit sore when walking. I’ve worn Vivos for about 5 years. Casually, at work for 8/9 hours on my feet and for workouts. Walking and running on concrete, tarmac, grass, woodland… If your weak feet get a bit hurty I’d say that’s because you are a bit of a melt. Your advice not to change from the overly cushioned, supportive, Achilles shortening, toe squashing modern trainers is terrible.

My point of view and tips: - i don’t run and if i run it’s because of cops. So barefoot shoes are nice. - do not heel strike - feet love barefoot shoes but pavement doesn’t care and it far from natural, so if you know that you are long periods of time in pavement then maybe have spare WIDE and zero drop ”normal” shoes like wide vans - unleaning old habits are hard, so take it easy and be conscious how you walk and slow down, many walk and hang out in running shoes that push forward even standing still. Slow down. - when walking, try to feel toes and let feets spread, use roots from forest to stretch out and stuff *if you aren’t professional runner but still run for exercise, maybe ”normal” running shoes are better and wont hurt

@scott5088

Those numbers are all based on pro speeds and pro power profiles. No way the avg cyclist who’s averaging 200 watts can save 80 watts over your average items. Tires, clean drive train, and your position are probably 96% of total watts profile. And I don’t buy the total watts saved with speed suit vs avg kit these days. That’s probably 5w delta.

I bonked on the first marathon I ever did in college. Not nearly as dramatic as these videos here, but basically I had no idea what I was doing and blasted through the first half of the marathon. Then at about mile 18 I was just beat. I didn't realize it but according to someone who was running behind me who stopped to help, I had been starting to weave back and forth, and then there came this tiny little hill and I tried to power up it and just fell over. Thank God there were kind people there who helped and sat with me and gave me fluids and some gummies, I was able to get up and finish it after resting for a bit. Which is an obvious indicator that I wasn't nearly in the straits these pros get themselves into, but I will never forget the feeling of my muscles just failing and flopping down onto the ground.

just don't heel strike! You get knee pain, back pain, and everything else because of heel striking. Heel striking is only possible with an unhealthy amount of heel raising. And it still causes knee pain! Just take it easy, and actually walk normally.
